I'm conflicted about them TBH. I could probably get one for £100 still, but don't have a full use for it and it wouldn't run a lot of the games I frequently play. Damn you PUBG for your non Linux anti cheat stuffs. Andy V-T has made a neat build with one into an Alienware EGPU chassis with internal Flex PSU. What is impressive is the community development on this hardware and whatnot can now do compared to when they were remaindered 5or so years ago. Hats off to those guys who dared to tread on really uncharted waters
I still follow the developments with great interest - it's a fascinating bit of kit. I just don't seem to have the time to make use of one, though I am surprised I had the spine to let it go, wrench though it was.
I've just sold my neglected Asrock DeskMini A300, slightly sad to see it go. STX motherboards are rare and I have a soft spot for vertical SODIMMS. It's a shame AMD didn't get more GPU horsepower into their APUs until much later...with a Strix Halo it'd be a LAN night beast! Just caught myself looking at Ghost Canyon NUCs, overpriced still and underpowered even compared to my ageing ITX rigs. I still have an 8th gen industrial ITX board for that feature.

The DeskMini sold well but not madly priced. The BC 250 seems to require a bit of determination to get it running, it's not straightforward plug and play from what I've seen.
That is an expensive bit of kit for once a week LAN nights however small and dinky it is. One of the guys has an intel NUC with intel GPU, very nice but adding the volume of the hefty power brick makes it not a lot smaller than the Metalfish T40 I'm currently using. Similar volume to the Dan A4, but a more conventional layout and SFX power still. I could go smaller, that's whiny Flex ATX territory or an even more spendy HDPlex
Strix Halo is 8050/8060S iGPU, 890M is much slower A comparison of my Strix Halo vs my 890M Result 890M is decent, just not Halo decent, 8060S is more like a dGPU. Its 16CU vs 40 like the BC250. Though if you have had a 780M/880M it 890M is not really a great bump whereas Halo is a massive leap.AMD need something in between as Intels B390 is going to eat its lower end APUs for lunch. 780m vs 890m Result Obviously, my results are from power compromised handhelds, you'd probably have more power budget in a miniPC,
My bad, I’d seen reviews saying that the 890M is essentially the same as the Strix Halo. Thanks for sharing the info!
Thanks for the comparison, that is quite a difference between the 2. So, with the 8060s we are in dGPU territory at last. At a price though!
