8060S is around a RTX 4060 (laptop or desktop they are roughly the same) so excellent for a APU. The biggest downside is cost and availability specifically if you were only looking for it as a gaming platform.
Yup it is pricey, but it is a complete different prospect to what has gone before, Quad channel 8000Mhz LPDDR5 RAM so lots of bandwidth, flexible VRAM allocation due to unified memory, so not VRAM caps, I am often gaming on my device with over 12Gb filled, and of course it's a 16 core/32 thread Zen5 chip with a full fat GPU, sure it is low end GPU but this really isn't going to be cheap. Very capable for a lowend GPU mind, often gaming at very high setting 1800p. I do run it on my 4k screen too but needs FSR for that as it is a lot, still it can do it quite well, you don't need much else from a machine if your expectations are modest. If you have a 128Gb one, you can run most of that RAM as GPU VRAM and run massive models for AI etc. OK slowly but it can load stuff a 5090 couldn't dream of. I have a few of them they are great, I really need to get shot of some though, too many things with the same hardware, doing the same thing, gadget addict much
One for each digit on my hand I have a problem I started with a little one, then wanted more RAM, then more RAM but too busy to deal with selling to people right now, doh, in tape out crunch but ends this week and I can be normal person instead of work hermit. Downside of on chip RAM is when upgrading it is new machine, which is more expensive than the RAM stick situation....
I've come very close on a number of occasions to clicking the buy button and I kind of wish I had when the prices weren't a bit mental. The Bosgame M5 (basically the same as the GMKtek) was about £1200 for the 128GB model at one point.
Yup I bought my onexplayers in 32Gb and 48Gb having cancelled the 128Gb because who needs it right, I was just buying it because it was good value, the 32/48 were subject to a price increase after I cancelled the 128 …. So I paid more than I needed there too, aaargh but only marginally, then I bought a 128Gb at 50% more that I originally ordered when I realize that no, 128Gb was not silly, Grrr I do have it in a number of form factors I suppose but I did not buy a miniPC and now I see what I can do with them I wish I bought the Bosgame too but instead I have mobile compromised devices like the Apex, SuperX and PX13 go pro. but the do have water cooling so can be hammered at 150w I only ended up with extras as I had to RMA devices and knew it take long so bought another to shift on later whilst waiting, I wasn’t just being a maniac
Things are progressing, you now have 16 more GPU cores potentially available with the recent unlock. I also saw an AIO cooled BC 250 on YT this last week too
Yes this was the reason for the PSU upgrade. I was right on the limit with the 300w with it mildly overclocked so the extra cores would have been too big an ask

I was about to jump on that and order it… but: The code doesn’t work. Tried signing up a new account using a different email address in Incognito mode, and same thing. I did use the same name & address though, so it could still be matching me as an “existing customer” and refusing the code based on that.

It's built! Managed to unlock the full 40 CUs too. I'll update with some more details and photos next week
Initially I just opened up the rest of the cooler fins then repasted it and printed out a double fan mount to give it a test. I put an old 256gb SSD in to try bazzite but interestingly it booted right into windows and seemed to work pretty well. I then changed the bios settings as recommended (can't remember what exactly now as it was months ago but something to do with memory allocation) I chose the case I intended to print. The redux by nextgen3d on printables and ordered all the parts he recommended with the exception of the additional power connectors and I bought a 300w PSU instead of the 500w as I wasn't aiming for big overclocks on the stock cooler. Got everything printed then got busy with life. Some clever clogs figured out how to unlock the CUs so I decided to order a bigger PSU and the additional power connectors as I was definitely going to give that a go. Parts arrived, did the necessary soldering for the power switch and extra power cables and got it all assembled. I bought hot melt threaded inserts which were a pain to install but after double checking the instructions it turns out the designer had sized the holes to allow them to be pulled in with a bolt rather heated in. That was much easier and more secure than the first couple I did that was the second most frustrating part of the build. The most frustrating part of the whole experience was I misplaced the 1tb SSD I bought for it I spent hours looking for it but had to settle on a 500gb instead. I set about unlocking the cus straight away and was fortunate enough to have the full 40 functional. Cooling was struggling a little so I did a very mild overclock. 1850 on the GPU and 2300 on the CPU. Temps were out of control though and it was throttling back to stock speeds so I dismantled it to swap out the Arctic fans for some Corsair MLs, I thought since I had it apart anyway I'd replace the thermal pads. That turned out to be a terrible idea though as the pads I had were either slightly thicker (even though they measured the same as the old ones) or didn't have enough give so the core temperature was worse. Stripped it again and used putty this time. Now it's running at the overclocked speeds while staying in the low 80s and has roughly twice the performance it had. I haven't played many games with it, just a quick test on arc raiders and God of war but it's performing very well. I'm back offshore now though so it'll be a few weeks until I can do more testing. Nextgen3d on printables was very very helpful, his models and info were spot on and he always replied with answers and advice when asked any questions. Old Lamer on YouTube was also a fantastic source of information in a Linux noob and his guides talked me through everything including the unlock and overclock. Sorry for being so slow with the update.
