Alot of people seem to be playing the game to finish it, whereas I found myself playing it for the sake of playing it and then occasionally do a side quest or the main assassination.

Combat is really fun. There are a large array of combo's, counters, grabs/grab breaks and defense breaks that you can use. Once you realise the game is not a button masher it becomes a hell of alot more brutal and fun. Countering with the hidden blade is epic.

Also the HUD should be turned off, it just sticks a load of unecesary crap on the screen that isn't needed. I just ran around with nothing but my weapon Icon turned on.

OK, fair point harshly made Joe, no need to 'imply' that I'm a moron. I was oversimplifying things there, but I don't get paid to write my opinions or thoughts and was trying to keep things as basic and short as possible. My mention of CoD4 wasn't intended to be detrimental to that game as it's one of the best FPS I've played in a while, it's a very slick package that's been excellently put together and I'm thoroughly enjoying playing through it at the moment.

However it is 'just' a good example of a modern FPS, it really doesn't bring anything innovative to the table that I haven't seen before in another game, as opposed to say HL2 with the gravity gun or the plasmids in Bioshock. The combat system and crowd interaction in Assassin's Creed blew me away and are completely new from what I've seen on the gaming market (and I've been gaming since the Spectrum 48k).

It looks like general consensus is divided on Assassin's Creed with some people loving it and other's being bored and let down by it, perhaps the tremendous levels of hype surrounding the game have elevated some people's expectations beyond what was delivered. Hopefully though Assassin's Creed 2 could be an awesome game if they listen views and opinions of the public.

Anyways, weren't you about 8 when doom came out in '92 Joe? ;)

    Peace

Apologies firstly, I didn't mean that to come across so harshly.

Second, Doom spans generations and nows nothing of ages. So, :p

I saw my friend playing this the other day

my first though was, wow, at the graphics

but after 10 Min's, i think i noticed what you lot have, there really isn't much difference

    1. Climb building
    2. Listen to someone
    3. Kill someone
    4. Rinse, Repeat

Sadly, amazing graphics really don't make up for crap game play and i think this is what happens here
Its a shame, and the draw distance is truly amazing, the whole game is in fact, in terms of the looks

So true, also means the only time we hear Joe's nonsense is when we read it on the site.

I'm finding some elements of the game great (graphics, interaction with crowd, the free running) but others totally repetative. The flags seemed to have been added to the game for the sole reason of forcing the player on to rooftops for no other reason than to look at the scenery. If they actually rewarded me with something (better weapons, aligity etc) then they would be more worthwhile.

I have to say the whole memory setting does open up alot of doors for future franchises (could be set in the wild west or any other time period).

Assassins creed is an awsome game and I believe it desrves a much better score. No other games have had the guts to develop a game that's set in this era and I believe ubi did a fantasic job. The graphics are amazing, it it looks great, it plays pretty good and has a really cool story especially if your into the middle ages and the crusades which I am. I would rate it 9 1/2. You really need to at least bring it to 8.
    Cheers!

Seconded. Holy thread revival, Batman ;)

I still stand by my review and score: yes, the graphics are great, the story is OK, but the game is let down by repetitive gameplay.
But hey, it's my review and if you don't agree with it, well, that's your prerogative.

Why the hell ain't there any subtitles? What about deaf or hard of hearing people, they can't get the clues... Totally ripped away from the storyline...
