Was driving back home in a convoy with 3 other RX8s from a very nice BBQ we had (16 cars showed up, beautiful weather, loads of food, fun time). I was hanging back with another 8, with a yellow one in front of me, he was going a bit faster (75mph) and merged to the right-most lane, put his indicator to merge back towards the left, just as he started merging nice and slow, some ass cut him off and nearly smashed into him, friend tried to correct but overcorrected, rear swung to the left as he fought to get it straight, guy merged onto his lane fully so he hit the brakes, tires lost traction, rear spun around and he slid into the grass going 70mph hurtling towards a pole he narrowly managed to avoid by less than a foot before encrusting himself in chainlink fence. Car body is destroyed, headlights are destroyed, wheel well ripped out, 2 busted tires, exhaust got caught in the chain, tires ripped themselves in a bunch of pieces.. Estimated damage from what we saw was roughly 8,000$-10,000$, had to get towed. Engine seemed fine though, steering & suspension is still unknown, though very likely damaged/trashed, one wheel was sitting way way high up in the wheel well. Thankfully he didn't hit anyone and the paramedics cleared him as uninjured, couple scrapes and bruises. Just really pisses me off how retarded people are when it comes to merging on the highway, had my friend not gotten lucky, he would have slammed rear first into that pole at over 70mph (the grass area was steeply sloped donwards also). Was really scary to witness it, considering he was about 3 or 4 car lengths in front of me and I saw the whole thing including him smashing into the fence, it looked like the car was going to go over it too, but it got stuck.
No, guy high-tailed it and ran off, I considered chasing him, but traffic was pretty heavy and I wanted to make sure my friend was ok first. Cops wrote it as he got cut off, so it's not his fault.
Similar thing happened to my family, got cut up when moving to overtake while towing a boat. the guy ran off, although we could have jut kept going hit him although that would have causd a hideous accident, but th guy who caused it would have stopped that way
When my mom was driving on I90 you would get cut off all the time. Once a mini van full of kids non the less cut us off, there rear end was less than 2.5 feet away from our front end.
Hey it's a car. Money can replace it but not lost health or lives. Still a shame to see a great machine destroyed due to someone's crumbling ego.
that sucks ... I'd be extremely pissed if it were to happen to my car it's not worth nearly as much as this rx8
Of course, all of us were glad he didn't end up in the hospital. Still though, all it'd take is people to have half a brain when driving to avoid this sort of ****.. just really ticks me off.
Yeah yesterday a car ran a red at a 4-way junction. Was very bizarre, the greenlit cars were already moving and traffic on the red lights was long stopped. No idea what the driver was on. would have piled straight into him had I not noticed a very confused look on another driver's face!
Well, I guess that's what insurance is there for. A mate of mine rolled his £20K Clio V6 into a lamp post not so long ago and wrote it off...then got a nice new one with lower mileage a couple of weeks later As has been said, you can replace cars, not people.
Your friend should sell his new Clio V6 immediately - he had his chance with one and failed. Why should he get another of those beautiful things?
Hehe, the ironic thing is he used to be a racing driver (used to kart with Jenson Button of all people, then went on to Formula Renault then Formula Palmer Audi, where he had to stop ~8 years ago due to lack of sponsorship). It was just a freak accident more than anything else; it was at night and raining, and he caught one of the white lines going on to a motorway slip road and lost the back end. He did actually wonder whether to not get another one because he destroyed his dream car and they're so rare, but was convinced otherwise.
Without sounding rude.. but how the hell did he do that? I was driving down a two lance dual carriage way last week, in my Van, doing about 60mph in the second lane when all of a sudden a lorry pulls from the first to the second lane, I was no less that 6ft from the back of him, he's braking hard, i'm braking hard, the guy behind (also in a van) brakes and goes off into the first lane to avoid hitting me. I come to an almost stop with out hitting the lorry. The reason a broken down 7.5tonne truck getting hooked up for a tow! Now I know I wasn't changing lanes or anything, but I din't loose it, nor to that matter did the lorry driver of the 40 tonne truck in front of me. How could your mate loose it so easily?
that sucks.. well you guys are in florida- he needs to spend some time driving in snow, that would break his panic to lock up the brakes.. in atlanta, it snowed once and I remember driving my truck down the freeway, every other car was in a ditch XD it was the funniest thing ever seen coming from michigan and that volvo video.. I've been ranting about volvo drivers forever- it seems sane people get into a volvo and then they mysteriously lose 50 iq.. something about that car- I seen a lady putting on her lipstick in the mirror and slam into the rear end of a semi right in front of me on the way to work.. seen moms beating their kids in the backseat with one arm on the freeway swerving all over the place the car is evil.. I always used to give a wide birth to a volvo when spotted one- like they have a rubber stamp on they head that says I'm not here glad your buddies ok.. damage doesn't look too bad if he can get the dealer working on it
Dude I'm going to be a volvo driver soon. Shup. I'm not getting ABS or anything, so I'm gonna learn loads from it From my experiences motorway driving, they get pretty frantic. Nicely parked by your friend, got himself out of a bigger mess.
