can the Asus APX78-BN accept an amd x4 945 95 watt cpu and what bios would be needed? this is a special board made exclusively for hp as far as my knowledge goes.
The best advice for any mobo update is to get the most recent one. As for whether it'll take the cpu, check the mobo support list when you're doing the bios update.
the motherboard is made for hp and they state old version amd quad not the newer recent models (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01635725&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3886131) AMD Phenom Quad-Core (Agena core) 9xxx series (AM2+) 95W is ther much difference in the bios for new and old Phenom. as for bios updates hp wont give any info other than this is what the board supports and no we wont give you the bios file.lol
Then your only option is pretty much a board upgrade, since there's no BIOS support. You can try it - they are socket compatible, but who knows what HP did to the BIOS to lock it down.
