I have a couple of questions.
I have got myself an Asus 9800gtx+ DN Gfx card and an ASUS P5Q-E Motherboard.

I'm looking to overclock my measily E2180 Chip and the gfx card to get a few more FPS out of them.
    What should I do?

Use the seemingly rubbish included software like the AI boost :eyebrow: and Smart doctor, or should I bin the lot and just use the BIOS and the nVidia tweaking panel and maybe nTune? After all, why would the BIOS have a billion settings in it if you weren't supposed to use it?!

I always think that the company software looks cheap and nasty where as stuff like nTune is just businesslike! Also I think that the Asus software has been screwing with my games (like Racedriver GRID as I didn't have stuttering problems on my old board!)

    What should I be using?

    e2180? and a 9800gtx?
You shouldn't be overclocking anything, buy a new cpu, then we talk

I know that..... but it is a stop gap at the moment. The old mobo couldnt cope with a quad core, so there was little point getting that first! You see in my sig I have clocked it a bit for the moment! :wallbash:
    So back to the question.....?

Do it the old fashion way, BIOS and instead of the supplied NVIDIA rubbish use Rivatuner or Powerstrip - I prefer Powerstrip, don't forget to grab orthos, cpu-z, gpu-z and HWmonitor from Orthos/CPUID/Techpowerup/CPUID respectively

I've been using EVGA Precision for GPU overclocking. It works very well, and has a very simple interface.

As for your CPU... BIOS all the way.

How interesting. I uninstall the ASUS software and my games stop hanging up!:eyebrow::thumb:
    Now.... onto the tweaking!

CPU: BIOS is the only sure-fire way, never use OS dependent software to overclock

GPU: i use Rivatuner because i like sticking with what works. kept hearing EVGA Precision is good though.

    The little 2180 isn't a problem, i have a 2160 in another rig, OC'd to 3Ghz and its a very capable processor.

I always find that bundled management tools tend to suck, poorly developed at times with the odd exception. Gainwards bundled app with my GTX280 was pretty good, but AtiTool could achieve more.

Nibitor for those in the know! ;)
