Ok... so my last XPC (45g, 9600 proAIW, XP300+ (OC'd 3200+) Corsiar XMS 3200 ram and 2 17" lg TFTs) got nicked...... :waah:

Got the cash from the insurance (6 mths later :wallbash: ) which will buy me my ideal spec XPC.........

Sb75G2, P4 3 gig ?? (suggestions pls - I have always used AMD in the past but I feel like a change), Asus X800 Pro TVD (I think XT may be going 2 far  ), twin SATA maxtor 150s in raid 0, creative Audigy platinum, DVD rw, high end matched heatsinked ram 1GB ?? (not 2 sure wots best for P4), twin 17" TFTs (non DVI) (replaced already).

........ Sounds gr8 in principal...... but will it work or will it fry

Problems: PSU only 250 W, Video card has no heat sinks on the ram chips (dumm Asus ........ very dumb :wallbash: ), the distance from the back of the AGP slot to the side wall of the cover is very small in an XPC...... etc

I am quite happy to mod the thing to make it work (I have a sound knowledge of electronics and metalwork and I have done small mods before) but I would realy appreciate some advice before I burn a large hole in my bank account ...... and my desk :duh:

Nope, it'll work quite well, not as good as a full tower but it's safe. My spec runs at really nice temps even after hours of gaming.

The PSU is more than adequate, shuttle PSUs are damn good.
Best solution is to buy a pack of RAM sinks or replace the original cooler with one that'll fit.
The cooler will run with the case on no problems but will make more noise. Best bet is to cut the side or buy a mech side to it.

Thanks for the info..... I guess your 6800GT would be at least equal in power consumption and heat generated to the AX800 card........ so i'm not flogging a dead horse........GR8 :thumb:

The SB75g2 has a mesh sided cover included with the kit (you can buy these for any Shuttle i think). Will this help my cause?

Also, any ideas for an aftermarket cooler that will not cover the ram chips on the AX800 (like the stock cooler appears to from the pics i've seen) so I can fit ram sinks ??

Or could I cut holes in the underside of the stock cooler fan cowl and poke heatsinks through into the GPU fans airflow ??

I have the same shuttle (would deffo recomend it). The way I see it Shuttle stuck that side cover on there for a reason. Although I'm tempted to seal the holes and try and solid cover to cut down on noise.

Should be fine, although I think you should know that RAM heatspreaders don't actually do much to help with cooling...so you should be fine without them...

Just don't pay more for heatspreaders when you'd be fine saving money! :D

I have to concur with blue infinity,

It will work fine, as the sb75 comes with the 250 watt silentx.

And don't bother with heatspreaders unless you want someone to see them as they don't doo much.

    GR8 :D . Thanks for advice everyone..........

I am surprised about the heat spreaders not making a lot of difference......... but thinking about it......... that is probably why they are not included on the ATI reference design for the card.....and very few manufactureres include them as standard :duh:

....... Now time to give up lots of cash...... assemble the rig....... and cross my fingers......

Thanks again for the advice........ I will post with the result..... :thumb:
