I recommend a lot of clear coat layers to "fill" the engraving to smoothen it out with the surface and really make it stand out. Sand wil high grit and us finishing polish. Look for polishing guides.

i think maybe i was misunderstood a slight bit. thanks for the replies (finally) but i think you guys might have gotten the wrong message. i want to have cases that look like the ones the wolverine and GoTall themselves etch onto and i want the same look and effect. the last time i tried engraving a black aluminium casing the color of the engraving went from the standard silver to a deep bronze colour and i think this was from oxidation. so i want to know if there is something i didnt do the last time or something i failed to put on the engraving after it was finished that made it go bronze. Thanx for the replies. ;)

i have a few engravings on aluminum, theve been sitting for about a year and havnt oxidized at all, so it may be the metal you are using,

I'm 99% sure that Clear Coat (as others have already stated) will solve your problem. Apply it once you've finished engraving, to protect it from rusting/oxidising.

so then do you rate that the engravings that GoTall or Wolverine do also receive the same treatment or washing to prevent the oxidation?
