    Just thought I'd point out that the VCS wasn't "rapidly" renamed to Atari 2600. That didn't happen until the Atari 5200 launched. (And an insistence on supporting the VCS/2600 over the 5200 was one of the things that led to that system's failure.)

    Also the 5200 had an electrical fault, in the psu iirc, that set a few houses alight and deaths were involved.

    ...and the controller was hideous.

    You're absolutely right - I had it in my head, incorrectly, that it happened a lot sooner in its lifespan. I'll go correct that, ta!
