Alright heres whats going on. I download a little program called powerstrip for my 19" monitor. I'm sure you've all heard of it. Basically all it does is create a monitor driver so you can override the resolution limits on the default plug and play drivers. So I create the driver, replace the plug and play one and try to put my reso up to something bigger then 1600x1200. It works but it doesn't show me the whole desktop. I'm able to move my mouse to go to the unseeable parts but it's really annoying. I've had friends who have the same problem... Anyone know how to fix? I know I'm doing everything with powerstrip right. Just wondering if it's a ATi driver bug or I need to change the settings on my card somewhere.... :wallbash:

It works fine for me, I can set it up to the max of 2048x1536, and the only limit is my monitor doens't like said resolution at any refresh rate. I'm just using the defualt ATi drivers and just going into active desktop control panel thinger.

I know ATi cards have a pan mode, where by you can run any res on any monitor, but it wil simply pan around like yours is. Hmm. Can't remember what the option is though. I know mine was doing a bit ago, went away when I upgraded my drivers. I was using terribly old drivers (only stable ones for me) and tried the new ones, they worked.

Sorry I cna't be much more help. Maybe try just using the desktop control panel from Windows?

That's what I was using. The Ati Control panel did it and so did windows. Wondering if it's my monitor. We both have viewsonics...
Actually, hell it wouldnt matter if I override the drivers. Windows wouldnt know what monitor I was using. Hmmm so it can't be the monitor.

Oh sorry, I thought you said you were using the Powerstrip control panel to switch resolutions, which I've had a lot of trouble with in the past.

Also I don't have a Viewsonic... I have Sony P900s, rebadged Dell and Compaq models. :eyebrow:

Is DCC enabled? I've read about a bit, and it seems that may be the problem, try swapping which ever it is, who knows? :worried: Otherwise I've not found much more unfortunately, nor can do I know how to fix it, my ATi cards just kinda break and un-break randomly.

    Where is the DCC option?

PS: No I use pwerstrip to MAKE the driver. And I've even used the plug & play driver and changed my refresh rate so I can override the resoultion limits and use stuff past 1600x1200 but I still get the same problem.

Found it. It's DDC... But I messed with that and its still the same problem. It almost fixed it though. The only place it pans to is the right instead of the top and right. $ :D Still..

 Wooops. Well at least you found it, unfortunately that wasn't it. Are yoiu using standard 4:3 aspect ratio resolutions? If not, it could be your monitor trying to use maximum display area, which causes panning. In the same Monitor control panel as the DDC, there should be tabs at the top, go to advanced and try the synchronization options there. If not, try using the adjustment tab options, perhaps that's all it needs.

I think its my monitor... Viewsonic's have this built in thing where if your refresh rate is too high it won't work. It will tell you its over and go black. When I get my reso up to 2048 it has to be one a freshrate of 48. Weak! Oh well

Ouch, which model do you have? I didn't even think monitors worked below 60Hz.... :eeek:

I see where it coming from now. 1600x1200 @ 68Hz, yeah, that's about what mine does, and my monitor is really pissy about anything higher, so I imagine it's your monitor then as well. Instead of blowing out, your monitor shoves itself into a safety mode, which only display 1600x1200 at a time.

Ah well, it was worth a try. I know I'd like to run at the elusive 2048x1536 myself, give me so much more desktop space to work with, since running my triple monitor setup doesn't work most of the time. :miffed:

I only want it that high so I can play this 2d game more effectively.

Btw when I bought the monitor max reso was 1600x1200...Not 1792x1344 =/

it sounds like you are trying to use a non standard resolution. try to find a resolution that keep the 4:3 aspect ratio. A lot of monitors have a problems correctly displaying resolutions that stray to far from the 4:3 ratio. My reccomendation is to keep trying resolutions til you find one that works.

i found that monitors hate your vertical resolution, but don't mind alot of horizontal res. My Viewsonic E70(17") is rated for 1280x1024@60hz but i can get it up to 2048x1080@60hz(ridiculous aspec ratio) :D :D and its rated 1024x768@85hz but i can sqeeze 1024x768@90hz out of it. im not sure it will last long at those resolutions tho! so i stick at 1024x768@85hz since im really irritated at anything under 80hz!

    keep that in mind!
