hey guys, well i went and replaced my 7900gt for a sapphire x1900xtx, which is currently sat on the bed .

before i install it i just wanted to confirm one or two things,

    1. is ati driver 6.4 the latest one?

    2. do i need to install .net framework? (it says required but dont you get that with windows?)

    3. when i un-install the 7900gt, shall i run drivercleaner pro first

    4. then put the x1900xtx in and load up the cat control centre package?

any help will be great thanks guys

1 - 6.4 is the latest according to ati
2 - you dont need to install .net framework, its only required to run ati catalist control center... you dont need that unless you want the extra options. (i would go for it... you bought such a nice card, you might as well play with its settings and toys)
3 - i dont think thats necessary, but i might be wrong
    4 - yup

not 100% sure what the deal is with microsoft .net framework

have fun with your toy :baby:

Definately run Driver Cleaner. I've had 'issues' changing from NVidia to ATI and vice versa, from some graphical weirdness to XP not booting. Always best to clear anything left by the drivers, I find, and Driver Cleaner seems to do the job. I just follow the instructions in Driver Cleaner's readme to the dot.

Sorry, but a bit of common sense would have gone a long way towards answering half of these questions and a quick search would have polished off the rest.

Why are you asking us? ATI - who produce the drivers - have a website that would have clearly indicated the latest version :eyebrow:

Seriously.... do you think that "required" just might mean that you need it?

can it be double choc chip :)

i asked on another forum and they said that .net frame work is only needed if cat control centre is being used. thank you v much.

when windows loads and norton anti v starts up, the screen will flick off and back on again very quickly like it does when you install the drivers , whats going on with it?

Normal I'd say, my X800 used to do it every time and I never had a problem. :)

Ahh this is a easy one...why dont you install them and see for yourself? maybe try and not install the control pannel and stick to the bog standard drivers only.

And if your wondering....i get no flash of black on my 9600 card.

yes it seems to be when the cat control loads up, searched and found out that this is a common case (cat control) and is just basically when the gfx card takes over the pc if you will :)

im glad i made the move back to ATI :) , but its funny how the day i get it i am already having to update the driver lol
