I currently just made three huge upgrades to my computer within the past month. I bought 2G more RAM, an AMD X2 64 4800 (939), and a ATI Radeon 2600HD PRO 512MB AGP 10x video card. I ran into problems upon installing the dualcore processor while having the new ram ( total 3G ) and video card previously installed. Once I installed the new dualcore processor I got this pretty message from the ATI CCC telling me that I needed the correct driver to match the CCC. So me being the obedient person I am, I went to the VisionTek sight to get drivers directly off of the manufacturer sight for Vista> Installed> Rebooted> still glitchy. I was curious if there is some sort of way to stop this glitching and for my system to recognize the fact that I have the drivers installed correctly and for the right operating system! I'm currently using Windows Vista, previously had Windows XP Pro SP2 and had the same problem on that OS. SPECS- MOBO:ABIT UL8 PROCESSOR:AMD X2 64 4800 RAMC3200 3G DDR2 VIDEO:ATI RADEON 2600HD PRO 512MB AGP 10x card POWER: 550W PowerSupply. Tried many driver installs and still nothing! Thank you for any help you can provide! Oh, and yes Vista is a genuine copy
Have you tried using the drivers from ATi's site? The ones on the VisionTek site will probably be fairly old.
Yes sir, I've used the 7.10 and the promised 7.8 drivers and neither will work. I was wondering if it was a conflict between the dualcore processors and the video card?
Have you tried drivers from http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html (or just goto http://www.amd.com and click get drivers) current version 7.10 there has been some windows hotfixes for graphics issues in vista (4 i think), i'm pretty sure their for performance. what PSU is it?
Yes I've downloaded those drivers from the ati site, and those don't work ether. Ha, apologies on my last post, for the Power Supply...it's not a main manufacturer, I actually don't even know who it's made by
Good call Golygus - could be the PSU making an arse of the job. And no Preston - there's no such thing as a conflict between dual-core processors and graphics cards.
I dont think this is a psu problem at all. What did you have before you installed the 2600? It sounds more like its a driver conflict. if there are still old drivers from whatever was there before they could easily cause "glitching". what is the glitching by the way? artifacts on the screen? slow performance? My suggestion, remove anything ati from the system. and not with the uninstall procedure that ati provides. there are thrid party programs on the net that will remove all traces of the ati drivers. and get rid of the ccc program at the same time. when thats all finished install the most recent driver/ccc from the ati website and see if that helps any.
Yeah good Idea. The main problem I was having was extremly sluggish performance and the main problem was that I couldn't install the drivers while having my dualcore in my compy. I just (tonight) took out my dualcore and put back in my AMD 64 3200 (2.25) and it works great now and the drivers all installed. So I'm still thinking that there is a problem between the video card and the processor. Maybe tomorrow I'll put back in the processor and see if it still works, if so, I'm not going to touch anything for a while! hahaha. Thanks for all the help guys, and I'm going to put back in that processor tuesday, most likely.
So when you changed the cpu, the problem went away? I dont know much about amd, maybe a setting in the bios needed to be changed? maybe a bios update for the newer cpu. thats assuming that when you put the new cpu in tomorrow that it still doesn't work right.
Hahaha, yes sir, that's exactly what I meant. See, at first the only upgrades I did was the RAM and the video card, and then like 4 days later I installed the CPU and all worked AMAZING. Ran GRAW perfectly and CRYSIS even better! I suppose I'll wait to actually get the CCC downloaded, because I only have the driver in right now, so I should probably get the CCC to work then install the CPU. It worked like this last time, so we'll see what happends now! Thanks for the support guys, and I'll make sure to keep you all in tune! Actually, another question. Would it be worth selling the video card, motherboard, and old CPU to buy a new SLI socket 939 mo'bo? Or should I just wait until I have enough money to get a new 775 Intel motherboard? Just a question...Since those 8600 GT OC are pretty cheap these days lol. Thanks again, Preston
Ontop of that, I have a really nice fan to cool my CPU and I can still only get that beast up to 2.8GHz for a while, while playing GRAW...to keep up with everyone that's rockin those E6850's lol...Just wondering if water cooling would be the way to go if I wanted to jump her up to 3.0GHz and keep it there while keeping my system stable and not crashing mid-way in game. I'm in a group/clan that plays a lot of "battles/wars" against other groups and I'd hate to join then lose it half way lol. Maybe a new larger PSU and better cooling would work.
