How about noise level? That small vent whole is bound to make more noise, as air pass faster, is what I am guessing.

"ATI has said previously that it worried that the difference in name between a single-GPU HD 3870 and a dual-GPU HD 3890 wasn’t enough to justify the large price difference"

    Wasn't it the 3870 X2?

Is it a worthy upgrade from a overclocked 4890? 1ghz gpu and 4ghz mem? or would a 6870 be better? im talking bang-per-buck (or pound)

Does it really make sense to have 2 separate reviews for these cards?

    Where's Crysis?.

My next card (I run a 4850 at the moment) will be in the £100 - £150 price range and will be the first card that can run Crysis. Yes, its an old game, yes, its a DX10 game but that doesn't mean it still isn't a good standard to judge cards against. Even at the very top end how many cards can run this game at top quality and decent resolution, none to not many, so if its still such a hard challenge for games I don't see why its been dropped as a judging standard,

By your own recent commentsa it's the first "benchmark" the majority of people turn to so I can't be on my own thinking its a solid standard.

    Great review Bit-Tech but.........
I really want to thank you guys very much for using Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead as one of the benchmarks.
It's a great looking game and I appreciate you guys adding it to your testing.
bout wet myself when I saw that.

Yes it was. The 5970 was the first dual GPU Radeon to drop the X2 moniker

+1 - Was looking for this as well! Glad to see ARMAII up there, though - that's a quality game. Probably a pretty balanced set of games up there to be honest, but surely there's room for Crysis!?

Since the prices are so similar, I'd go for Team Green, due to their reputation for better drivers, and far better folding performance.

    +1 for crysis.
yes, it's old, but it's still THE raw-graphics-power-eater

Looking forward to the price-war (though that will mean I'll have to wait a bit more)

So I'm looking at buying a sub £150 graphics card next week for my new build. I Was almost certain I was going for the 460 768mb and now this comes out.

What would you guys go for? I'm buying it on wednesday next week... maybe pricing will settle by then?

For everybody asking about us not including Crysis in our benchmark suite anymore, there are several very good reasons for not doing so:

    1. Crysis is a 3 year old game that a) never sold very well and b) according to all the stats we've seen very few people play these days.
    2. Crysis is so poorly optimised that its unlikely to ever run particularly well on any hardware in the forseable future, especially as...
    3. ATI and Nvidia both gave up optimising their hardware and drivers for this old, not very popular game a long time ago.

Instead, we'd rather focus our attention on games that people are playing, as that ultimately is what matters.

    I can't wait for the HD6950, HD6970, and HD6990(x2?) reviews.

Any ideas when the release dates are for these cards?

I can see why bit-tech didnt use crysis, but the only problem is for people like me.
I own a 4850, i can not compare any of there bench marks to my 4850.
Time to do some benchmarks :naughty:
Great review Bit-tech,Fair and unbiased as usual

Wait for the review of the retail cards. Asus 6850 hitting 1000MHz on Core, and stable. These new cards from AMD are absolutely BONKERS! Goodbye nVidia, I can't say im gonna miss you...

I feel a new 4850 on the horizon! AMD Cheesecake!
