And no the giant thing on it is not the CPU cooler, its actually belongs to the northbridge.

Every single time I see something like this, something that looks pretty good at first glance, I'm always disappointed that they seem to be lacking onboard gigabit.

Still, at least it'll have a chunk more performance than my VIA ITX board.

So, assuming the CPU is under the passive cooler at the front, does that mean that the northbridge dissipates more heat than the processor? Just taken a look at the specs, and I notice the TDP of the CPU is 4W. :eeek:

Looks good value at £60. Now, if only I had a use for another mini-ITX board...:worried:

Undercutting Via alternatives by quite a bit, pity about no gigabit though. No doubt there will be other options though.

I want one of those. A lot.
I just can't justify it which is a shame. And it is only £60.

AFAIK that cooler is for the IGP as well but I may be mistaken.

    Quoted from this thread:
Edit: Oh and Bindi told us to wait up... something about something this monday. Perhaps a review of said board is coming along?
Edit edit: Ahh that might have been Isaiah (the new VIA core) he was talking about... and it was in another thread :D

Awesomeness. 65€ + some old parts = Supreme office+mailing machine and justification for raytracing machine with massive overclock. Not to mention that it is mini-ITX so you can build a mod around it. Now if this isn't Cheesecake what is?

EDIT: These boards would accept DDR2 800 right?

You think it would be possible to run a 8600GT off of this? That will help justify me getting an 8800Gt, and it will give me somthing to do this summer.

No, theres no pcie slot only PCI, which also cripples its usefulness in a file server if you ask me what with its lack of gigabit ethernet too.

Yup. The lacking gigabit network is pretty much a dealbreaker.

You could of course use a PCI gigabit net card but then you spill some more watts on that.

Not very well thought out to not include IMO.

can anyone recommend a cheap case / psu to go with this please?

I have a hard disk already, and its cheap enough to pick up 1gb ddr2 (667Mhz). I can't think of anything else I would need?

Ready to go low power 24/7 torrentbox/fileserver (gigabyte network isn't an issue for me) :)

    *edit*

I have seen this case for £15! http://mini-itx.com/store/?c=3#c137
Would the 90w external be suitable?

Though I can see this being useful, I really think - like everyone, that it NEEDS gigabit. Really. How much more are the damn chips?

I'd also LOVE to see PCI-E, which I surmise isn't included due to the fact that it's 75W to slot; and there really looks to be like what, 20W of vregs onboard? I could make a Fileserv out of this, but I would need a flexible PCI extender, as well as one of those horizontal 2-slots-from-1 dealies - so I could have gigabit ethernet and 4 more SATA.

The problem with Mini-itx boards with a pci slot and no gigabit is the bandwidth of the pci bus, maximum throughput of the pci 32bit 33MHz bus is 1056Mbps before any protocol overhead, that might just be enough for gigabit ethernet but if you put a real raid card on there as well youll be crippling the performance of both.

90W will be more than enough :)

It's a true shame that I can't get something like that over here. Think about it - a suitably powerful PC, EASILY built for less than $200.

$75 for a motherboard, $30 for a case, maybe $25-30 for a wireless card, add 1/2 GB of ram ($20/40) and then a nice, big hard disk, and voila.
