Anybody have an idea on how I could attach a .063 rod to a hard drive platter? Its sort of an art/deco piece, the steel will be laying on its side, so I'm thinking some kind of glue but I dont know if anything will bond to the surface.

an epoxy would work, something like JB weld or some other two part epoxy. Stuff is as strong as steel when cured.

Awesome. JB weld came to mind today when I was trying to brainstorm the answer. Wasnt sure if I should rough up the platter before applying, or not. I'm thinking I wont. I'll test it before I dedicate to it.

Just mix and apply, and just be sure you NEVER want to remove rod. JB weld is not nice once it hardens :)
