    Hi guys!

I am attempting to overclock the system in my sig. I've just used the ASUS AI Suite to do it for the moment.

I'm at 4.5ghz and I have a Corsair H60 cooler installed. On some cores I am getting temps of 77degrees C when running Prime95. Is this an acceptable temp?

Should I just forget the ASUS auto overclock and do it manually?

    Thanks for your time!

77 seems very high given the cooler that's attached. Any ideas what vcore is going through it. I'd do it manually anyway, auto overclocks tend to put too voltage through.

hmmm ok. Out of curiousity (because i can not for the life of me tell if the water cooler is doing anything, doesn't make a sound) would the temps be MUCH higher if my Corsair H60 was not working at all?

While running Prime95, the voltage is 1.32. Too much?

Hmmmmm.....that's not too much no. You could maybe get away with less but it certainly isn't too much nor is it the cause of the heat. Hae you checked all the power connectos for the H60?

actually the voltage is pretty good

how have you got the h60 setup?

make sure the fan connecters are plugged in

failing that, look in the ai suite it should tell you the fan speeds. see if they are spinning at their rated speed.

the voltage you have is fine.

i dont like using the built in oc programs, like noiz said they often put voltage too high, but seemingly that isnt the case here.

maybe try oc'ing manually and see if temps are lower

As j4mi3 eluded to, there may be some setting in BIOS regarding the speed of the fans, especially the CPU fan where the H60 is probably plugged in. See what these are set at.

yeah sometimes the mobo slows the fans down to save power and noise, i usually turn these off. they could be affecting your fan speeds.

it will be in the monitor section on the bios somewhere i think

The H60 has the radiator fan connected to a motherboard power connector labelled CPU_FAN.
The pump connector is connected to a motherboard power connector labelled CPU_FAN_OPT

I have the radiator fan PULLING in air over the radiator. Does this sound right?

Having just taken the side of my case off, the Prime95 temps are now 69 degrees. Case airflow issue?

Ah, there's a problem. A fan should never pull air through a radiator, at least not without a second fan pushing air. Swap it to push air through the radiator. And what case have you got?

Also how long has the cooler been on the CPU just thinking about the TIM on there acting up maybe.

Ok, so push the air from the inside of the case to the outside of the case? So I basically have the fan on the wrong side of the radiator.

Case is a Corsair 700D (HUGE thing)

Cooler has only been on for a few months. Last time I attempted overclocking (which seemed to work fine) and them my motherboard blew along with the mem controller on the CPU.

To this day I am not 100% sure it was the overclock. Temps were not above 70degrees, voltage was 1.35 and this was done manually.

Why I'm a bit of an anxious overclocker ;p

So it's not cramped lol Yes , push air from inside out, that should help temps substantially. Overclocking's really easy on SandyBridge. You can't really damage anything unless you really ramp up the voltages.

Brilliant, thanks Noiz and the rest of you. I will swap that about now.

If your temps still seem high under load (above 60-65ish) then it may be owrth remounting the cooler with different thermal paste as was suggested above.

ok, ran into a bit of a snag. With the parts provided by corsair, I can't actually set it up that way as the long screws that come with it are not designed to fit through the radiator to the fan.

So while typing this I have formulated a plan... if i go to maplin and grab another fan and attach it to push air through and use the original to pull through the air, would that work ok?

What are decent fan makes that are quiet? Are there any otehr fan specs i would need to match up with the original fan to make it work correct?

Assuming there are screwholes at both sides of the radiator, why not just screw the fan to the rad and then a second set of screws to fasten the rad to the case?

Oh and Corsair recommend it be an intake I think, hence the long screws not working for this.

OR I could do that... ;p

Seeing as the intake resulted in higher temps I may still be tempted to do your way.

Will adding a second fan to the radiator make much of a difference anyway?

More airflow cant really hurt would probs improve your temps a bit
