Windows Attention all BF2 gamers!

To all those who play Battlefield 2...

Do you think the game is good... There are lots of gaps and glitches in at and its been out for virtually 2 years!

I am in a clan and im really enjoying it... But I think people are getting fed up with getting disconnected and the game crashing etc...

Will the current BF2 gamers play BF2142 when its released? Or will this take EA to years to get it right... if they get it right???

 

I used to play BF2 ALOT, now I have not played in ages.

I just cant be botherd to load it up, connect, wait for servers to load, load map, crash, and try again.

Great game when you find a good server.

 

I love playing it but it atm its annoying the crap out me, kept getting disconnects like crazy, nothing todo with ping, tried completely loosing all FW's, direct modem to pc connection. But no luck, I've just done a fresh install of Xp but i havent bothered to install it but time will tell....

 

It's ok. I would be happier if the world was still playing BF1942 and the various versions of DC though. Gaming just feels less and less pure, and more and more joyless as time goes by.

 

Just play karkand more, other maps, like dalian plant get extremely boring IMO while a good ol' infantry only karkand fight rules

 

I love playing BF2 but there are so many unresolved bugs that won't ever get fixed. But we all know that's how EA operates.

I play on Team|rip's 9 Round Karkand Only server which is a lot of fun as long as the US team isn't dual spawn camping Hotel from both spawn areas with the tank and LAV, and as long as MEC isn't spawn camping the US uncappables. I also hate it when your commander tank whores...that's aggrevating.

 

Yes... It really needs to be sorted, But for some reason it works fine on ones PC for a while and on anothers (my mate) it just stops working...

Its a really good game when you actually get to play it... I just hope and pray that BF2142 wont be the same.

Yeah, I hear that, mate. '42/DC seemed to have a better community spirit, people that were new to the game weren't scorned and there seemed to be a lot less lamers (not that it was lamer free by any stretch of the imagination).

To me, BF2 feels like a dumbed down version of DC for the masses, many seem to think it's all about the points and the rankings. Gone are the days (mostly) of hanging back & defending the flags, everyone wants to be at the front line where the points are.

For all it's faults, I still like BF2; I play it almost exclusively and no doubt I'll end up buying 2142.

Yeah, but there are heaps of other infantry orientated games out there, the thing that set BF'42 & DC apart was the vehicles.

<Pedantic mode> 14 months, actually. But that still doesn't excuse EA/Dice for the ammount of bugs still in the game.

 

I play quite a bit, the problem is the players.

No sense of teamwork and thats what lets the game down if scores were only based on teamplay half of the monkeys running around would be long gone

 

Yes... you do get n00bs but then again everyone was a n00b once!

 

It's not really about being a noob or a pro though. It's about attitude. Whenever I start out at an online game, I say hi to people in servers, I apoligise for being a noob if I screw up lots, I ask people questions politely. Many people do exactly the same.

Then you get the jerks who go in there totaly unprepared to admit that they're new to something, so they shout and swear when people get annoyed at them for messing up, they piss of regulars, and put down other new people. They are the people who ruin online games, and no matter how good they are at the game, they're generally always assholes. So long as there is enough of a community in a game when these people start, they can generally be converted into decent, polite players by the majority of mature decent people.

When you get something like BF2 though, all of a sudden you have millions of these asshole newbs, and not nearly enough people to yell at them and train them to be polite and decent, so the game goes sour and the decent folk stop playing. For a perfect example of this, look into Counter Strike.

 

BF2, like someone mentionned already, is becoming joyless for me too--almost like a chore

not to mention the general bugginess of the game, the slow MP server browser etc

what i find terrible about the game is A)the focus on vehicles B)the HP of the vehicles C)the massive amount of time needed to earn the ranks and thus the unlocks

on most maps, the game devolves into vehicle whoring...whoever is best in the tank/APC/helicopter/jet usually ends up with the most points and is the most annoying

the way that points are rewarded is skewered too. when you think about it, a guy sitting in a vehicle, killing infantry has a massive advantage--thus the amount of points awarded for killing someone that you have an enormous advantage over should be less than if you're at a disadvantage, or on equal footing

something like this

vs infantry

light vehicle>APC>tank>helicopter>airplane (where light vehicle-hummer, vodnik etc.-earns the most points and airplane the least)

hopefully a kill reward system something like that would make things like spwn camping in tanks less rewarding

for the record, i probably won't buy 2142 A)i doubt i will have enough time, B)if it's anything like BF2, i won't touch it with a 20' pole

 

well i guess im not gona buy the game anymore, saves me 60 bucks.

 

I only bought the game like 6 weeks ago (So yes, I'm one of those many n00bs, but one of the polite ones )

Definately enjoying it, despite the many bugs, dolphin diving, nade and medic spamming, and general eejits...

TBH, the most annoying thing is waiting for the 1.4 patch to be released:
Have had the 1.4 beta 2 installed for a couple of weeks, and havent yet had a ctd (Also liking the Inf-only, and Jalalabad map) - Seemed to fix most issues for me anyway...
- Was not happy when EA took their EU servers running it offline!

End of the day, it IS fun...
Will be buying 2142 when it comes out: Once a beta tester, always a beta tester eh?

 

I'm skipping over BF2142 in favor of quake wars, despite it being a few more months away. I can't really see 2142 being any different than BF2, and I can only stand to play several maps before a little repetition sets in (usually me getting repeatedly plastered by an APC or helicopter).

I don't think the ranks detract from the game, though. It's more or less that most regular gamers have no concept of squad teamwork. Furthermore, anyone who doesn't use comms lacks the proper coordination required to play as a team player -- even if they are good team players by skill alone.

 

BF2 is probably the most badly coded game ever. I can load hl2:deathmatch and play for a good 10 kills much faster than I can even connect to a BF2 server. And the ragdoll in bf2 just looks plain stupid.

 

BF2142 just seems like a reskin of BF2

i wish there was a vehicle-user class...call it "mechanic" that you need to spawn as to use anything heavier than a vodnik/fav/hummer etc

imo, one of the most annoying things for me especially, is a guy who is pretty much exclusively using the heavier vehicles as a sniper

 

I must be really lucky. I have never had any problem's with it crashing or servers going down.

Which is a shame because I always get pwned. I love the game, i love that feeling when you all get in a helicopter and fly across the ocean/sea with the sun beaming off the waves (all you need is that typical american army rock music to play). Feels good .

If you dont like all those gameplay bugs just try the project reality mod it is exactly how BF2 should be...fun with a lot of teamplay. For real I never had as much teamplay and voice com action as I got in this mod on any bf2 server!
They changed the game a lot...just have a look at it.
