Hiya, has anyone anodised an Evercool Aluminium fan surround/mount? This 120mm fan has the ability to detach the blade/motor assembly from the Alu frame. (simply unscrews) Just after tips if you DIY'd. Cheers.
Lol, anodised Cybermen from Dr Who. Hahahaha a bright green K-9 And a big to the young 'uns who don't know what I'm talking about. Anyway, back on topic, anyone anodised the fan surround?
Performance PC's being a website I guess? I'm fearing the search results from google on that one... I'll look anyway though.
There is a post on this website about anodizing(correct spelling) stuff. I think that one of the moderators wrote it. Anyhow use the search button. or try google!!
Aslong as you can completely remove any trace of any other material on the material itself, it should be fine.
Here's what I would do if I were you. Clean off the fan of any oils, with some alcohol and cloth. Get a can of DupliColor's Metalcast and just spray directly onto it. Smile at a job well done.
If only it were that easy... it would never be anywhere close to looking like it was anodised I've had my entire PC60 anodised Red, and if you could see it in person, you'd definately understand!
Umm, I've personally used the stuff before. It has a Metalcast basecoat that you can lay down, that will give a rougher texture to it. Believe me, it's darn close to the real thing.
It looks the dogs... I've got some pics but they are from the crappiest camera of the year :/ http://mrbadidea.kicks-ass.net/pics/?gal=3&pic=10 http://mrbadidea.kicks-ass.net/pics/?gal=3&pic=13 http://mrbadidea.kicks-ass.net/pics/?gal=3&pic=14 In person, the anodising looks soooo silky smooth, and its such a rich colour too. You can say what you want, but I think you'd have to spend some serious time spraying it up if you wanted it to look as smooth.
wow!!! that does look super sexeh tis a bit expensive for me to do, especially to a full case tho :S very nice clean look tho
Thats a common mis-conception. Most big Anodising companies will charge a minimum fee that will cover so much surface area. You get one blanking plate done, it'll cost you the same as a whole case. The place I used charged £55 as the minimum, and I worked out I could have had 3 complete cases done!
Actually, I did read that thread, but I was after hints specific to the fan surround. I also googled, and guess what? I found lots of "articles" on anodising that were exactly the same (got plagerism? ) Doesn't matter, I posted the surround off to an anodiser & all it'll cost me is $20nz (roughly £6)
