I am trying to figure out whether the Asrock Z77 Pro4-M has died or not Everything is connected except the Pro 4 has an 8 pin header my spare PSY has only a 4 pin connection.

Although I have a 4 pin to 8 pin adapter my question is do I actually need the 8 pin header to have it's full connection as I notice the retaining clip on the header is offset from the centre.

Not that it really matters with this board as either way it does not power on.

Usually boards will take a 4 pin connector even if they have an 8 pin connector. Check the mobo manual.

I think a 4pin connector should provide enough power, since there are some boards I think that only have a 4pin instead of a 8pin.

normally you can just use the 4 pin as said but its a case of RTFM

Sorry guys the manual had the info:

Though this motherboard provides 8-pin ATX 12V power connector, it can still work
if you adopt a traditional 4-pin ATX 12V power supply. To use the 4-pin ATX power
supply, please plug your power supply along with Pin 1 and Pin 5.

    Cheers anyway.
