Hey I have a dodgy laptop, core 2 duo with no on board sound and faulty jacks. Is there software that will stream the sound to the desktop its adjacent to over the network? does synergy allow sound streaming? laptop is running windows 7 and xp, desktop is vista 64 bit.

If you don't find any software you can pick up a USB sound card for pretty cheap these days, and they're usually quite good. :)

that would work, but with software the plus would be output over the home theater through the desktop. i hate switching inputs and wires

    Try Orb. http://www.orb.com
It will let you stream any kind of media- even to mobile phones. I have a large dvd/dvr collection that I stream to my work computer and when on holiday so that I can watch where ever.
I was a bit skeptical of the mobile part- but tried it out with my blackberry and was VERY impressed.
