I've had a laptop for about three years now and I'm looking to build my first tower. Budget: I'm looking at around the thousand dollar mark for what I want, whether it's what I need is another matter. Currently I have this quote from an online retailer called uMart: Intel Core i5 2500 Processor LGA1155 3.3GHz CPU ASRock P67 PRO LGA 1155 Intel P67, DDR3 2133 (OC) G Skill 8G(2x4G) DDR3 1333MHZ PC3-10666 CL9(8GBRL) Hitachi 2TB SATA 6.0Gbs 32M CoolSpin Leadtek GTX550 OC 550TI HDMI Samsung 22X DVDRW Black SATA (SH-S223C-BL) CoolerMaster RC430 Black Edition 500WPSU Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OEM(Microsoft OEM Terms&condition apply) Three Year On site warranty(for $0-$3000)Umart System Build Only This comes to 999$ but that includes their building/installation of drivers/burn in which I think I'm confident enough to do myself. To me, brand doesn't matter, unless a shoddy brand will lead to shoddy performance. Hence, the video card, ram and hard drive brands don't bother me, If i could find the same items cheaper in another brand i'd go for them. Main uses of intended build: Gaming. Possibly a bit of editing/autocad etc. next year at uni when I do engineering but for now, mostly gaming. Crysis 2, SCII, DiRT, etc. New games (and old, but I don't think i'll struggle with old games ). Parts required: Everything. Like I said, I have only had a laptop in the past so all I have is a keyboard and mouse. I need speakers, monitor, and every part. However, I work at a jb hi fi so ill probably pick up the speakers/monitor there. Monitor resolution: N/A as I haven't decided yet, but I want full HD, unless it will set me back too much. 1650 would be fine. Storage requirements: Want at least a terabyte but the Hitachi 2tb was only 15 dollars more than a 1 tb, so I figured why not. will you be overclocking: probably not. Any motherboard requirements (no. of USB, Xfire/SLI, fan headers): I'm a bit confused about this. Is the 1155 standard coming in to stay? I read somewhere it required a new mobo if you were going to Intel's new sandy bridge architecture but I have no idea if this sort of mobo will be compatible with future upgrades. Extra information about desired system: Nothing really.. I think i've said everything I need to say. Recommended alterations to build would be helpful. Also.. should I be worried about the case/psu combo? I've heard combos psus suck but I wouldnt know for sure as I have no experience. also... will my card fit in that case?? Thanks for your help in advance!
Bumpy bump. Just as a point of interest, 1000 AUD is equal to 663 pounds and 1 082.4 U.S. dollars. However, stuff in australia is really expensive.
I am from Australia too, Take a look at http://www.msy.com.au/default.jsp and http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php They are both really good, msy is cheaper but pc case gear has a larger range of components. BRAND DOES MATTER ALOT!! - Get the 2500k instead. Because you might want to overclock in the future. If you do decide to overclock you will need a better CPU cooler than the stock one, I suggest the Thermaltake Frio, I have it a I love it, I have my 955 BE overclocked to 4.0GHz and I havent ever had problems with over heating. - Instead of a ASrock board get a Asus, MSI or Gigabyte board that are around that price area because ASrock isnt a highly recommended brand - RAM is fine and get Ripjaws, but get 1600MHz instead. - Get a Western Digital Caviar Black for hard drive. - Leadtek?? Get a better brand. MSI, Gigabyte, Asus, EVGA are all better options. You may also want to consider the 6950 or GTX560, better cards and you'll run games much smoother when you are playing new games like crysis 2 etc.... - Optical drive is fine, doesnt really matter. - Do not get a coolermaster power supply! Have a look into these Powersupplys. 501-600W Budget: Antec Basiq 550 - £49 -84% Efficiency Mainstream: Seasonic M12-520 - £74 - 85% Efficiency (Modular) Performance: Enermax Modu87+ 600 - £130 - 91% Efficiency (Modular) 601-700W Budget: Antec EarthWatts 650 - £61 - 84% Mainstream: Corsair HX650 - £97 -85% (Modular) Performance: Enermax Modu87+ 700 - £145 - 91% (Modular) If u get a big monitor like a 24"+ you will want to get a video card with larger memory. Glad to help.
