I've taken delivery of a nice new 8x DVD burner this week, and I'd like to be able to convert a pile of mpeg and avi video clips to DVD compatible format. I'm sure this is possible, but are there any recommended applications to convert the formats?? (...erm, preferably free ones?? )
been looking at this myself too recently. not found a sinlge app to do it but i've found that a combination of premiere and encore will do the job. encore is adobe's dvd authoring suite, allows to add menu's subs etc, and has its own transcodeing tool's to turn your project to dvd. or you can use premiere on its own as it too can transcode video. is a long process, as the way i'm doing it you have to resize the video to a compliant size eg 720 * 576, 704 * 576 etc. then trancode then burn to disc. hope this helps, amd if i find a quicker way/better way will update you
I use an application called TMPGEnc DVD Author, works alright. It doesn't give you too many options, but you can make menus and that sort of thing with it.
Cant you do it in Nero? I'm pretty positive theres a DVD (Video not data) writing mode although dont quote me on that as I don't use it anymore.
the dvd video is for use with 'compiled' dvd files eg your vob, ifo, bup files, unfortunatly is doesn't work the same as the svcd mode
try looking at doom9 . I looked there when I got my DVD burner for XMAS. Folloed the guides for ripping/re-authouring/burning etc and used the software they recommend (all free). They might have something for you....you never know!
doom9.net is quite a good site, i'd also recomend http://www.dvdr-digest.com/ they have quite good articles on ripping etc
