Windows avi to mpeg converter ???

hi..

i have a Panasonic digicam, it uses firewire to get the images off the DV tape onto my pc but saves them as a HUGE AVI, file...am not bothered about the size as the quality is amazing.

but i want to be able to burn my home videos to DVD, to take to m8z houses so they can watch it on their DVD players..which mean i need software to convert from AVI to MPEG..so that the DVD player can play it...

am willing to pay for software but would prefer freeware .... below is basically what i need for people who cant b assed to read all the above ( i know i wouldnt!)

Try a demo of uleads movie factory2 it does what you want, it doesn't have much in advanced features but is easy to learn and use.

Also, vdub will compress that large avi of yours but into another avi.
