Just wondering how you go about this, wouldnt mind essentially ghosting my server box setup incase it was breeched? Can i just copy the important stuff accross the network onto a cd? I think itll fit on a cd bar the /usr/local/games folder... any help would be much appreciated
tar is mighty useful for backing up filesystems. dd is good at taking images of whole disks. Hard to be real specific without knowing more about your filesystem layout. Most people would find almost everything that needs to be backed up is under /home since most of the rest will be system crap you could get reinstalled from CD quickly. Having /home on its own partition is a smart thing for this very reason, you can dd it to a file on another disk in the box and then scp it over to a different box across your network.
