When i got home from school today, I opened my backpack, removed my little protective mini bag from it, and removed my laptop from that. I plug it in and power on, and, OMG! the screen is cracked and the picture is all crazy!!! after punching several nearby objects, i went on ebay and other websites looking for a new screen to buy. while im waiting for a price quote for a new screen, im wondering how i can mod my backpack so that itl be a super strong, armour plated, foam padded laptop carrying device. does anyone know what i should do to make my bag fall protected, flying object guarded, and thief proof? thanks for all your suggestions!

You dont want it too heavy, so at make plate steel unviable. Maybe make a liner for your bag out of titanimum. How about a aluminum sleeve that you laptop sits in (prety much a box with one end open), with foam lining.

i think ill get a sheet of aluminim, bend it to a rectangle, and cut one side open. then put hinges on the cut out and make like a door. then inside put foam, and some straps so that the laptop is held in place and not bouncing around, then put a latch on the door so that i can close it and make it stay shut, then put a padlock on it so thieves cant steal it .

I have a Jansport bag designed to hold laptops, there is a really thick spongy coat around the compartment for the laptop, which means it is well protected. So you want lots of sponge to absorb shocks really. Not aluminium because it is not really protective against squashing" although it may be good against bumps etc.

How about not going so tough on your bag? I broke about 6 bookbags in my whole 14 year life...

I've only broken 1! That was at the airport in Gatwick to Florida, the strap broke during boarding so I rushed back to the terminal and bought the £85 Jansport bag (well, I was desperate), which I still have today, the one with the laptop compartment!

You could have aluminium on the outside and sponge on the inside, that should do the job. Just remember to round the corners.
