    Hi,
I am looking for a free/cheap backup program for windows XP. It would be nice if it was very much like the one built into Vista. Hope to hear from you soon.

Not an answer to your question but I would suggest investing $50 (£2/m) in using Carbonite online automated backup - cheaper than discs/time. Not perfect but a lot better than most procedures involving humans like me.

Microsoft Synctool? If it works in Vista that is.

Well I'm even more uncertain now - you have a 500GB NAS - where are you planning to back it up TO with your free backup program ? To a stack of 75 DVD-RW's every night ? At least Carbonite has "no limits on backup storage capacity" though being an incremental tool suggests that "will make it very slow to back up more than, say, a few dozen GB of data." No you're right Carbonite isn't for you - presumably a second 500Gb NAS drive is ? (My friend's Netgear NAS came with backup/synch software.)

Okay i will try again. I am looking for a backup program that can back up from my XP computer to my NAS-server. I know Microsoft Synctool, but i am looking for something like the one in Vista where you can have multiple copies of files, taken at different times.

I'd been looking into this recently but haven't got around to making a purchase. A few people at work have suggested Acronis and that was the direction I was headed.

Well I have installed SyncBackSE V4.4, and kind of like it. 30 days trial, and only $30 after that. Thanks for the help all.
