Can anyone recommend any good backup software to backup files over a network.

I run Win7 Home - the built in software does not allow backup to network, only external hard drives.

Ideally free, as when Win8 comes out, you'll be able to backup to the network in the home edition.

You can download and use Synology backup software for free that you use with their NAS, its OK.

Personally I use Rsync through Cygwin with a few batch scripts setup.

you could just use the windows one set up with a scheduled task to run after it to move the backup file to a network share

I use @MAX SyncUp. It allows backing up over a network (NAS, LAN, VPN, sftp, online to Google Drive). Unfortunately it's not free. But it's not very expensive.
