DICE are releasing a new 4-player co-op mode for BC2. It looks pretty interesting: http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/bat...ngs-onslaught-as-bfbc2-reaches-5-million.aspx Unfortunately I'll never know since it's only for consoles FUUUUUUUUUUU-
Seems most people feel this way, you just have to look down at the comments to see how many people want pc support for this. So much for them giving PC's a lot of support then
lol if anyone actually read the link and found that DICE are working on a way to bring it to the PC they just not sure how yet. they dont wanna just make it a map so 28 players get kicked out of the game they also cant do P2P for this cause they say it would need server code which is a security risk. there looking at maybe putting up some dedicated EA servers but there not sure how many people will play at the same time
The word PC wasn't even mentioned in the article I linked to, it seemed they just decided it would be easier to ignore PC users rather than give any form of explanation. I don't really buy that story though. The console versions use dedicated servers as well - unlike other games like MW2 which use P2P - albeit via a matchmaking system (though the PC version also has this with the 'Play Now' functionality, when it works). If they really needed to rely on P2P though I can't imagine it would be that hard, IW managed it with the Spec Ops mode in MW2, maybe they should talk to them about how to do it. It's just DICE releasing another update before it's properly ready. Why piss off PC users even more than they already are right now just because you haven't finished making it for that platform yet?
same as what i posted about issue of picking up kit when defusing/arming: extra kit-pickup key on PC is perfectly sensible. http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/...why-not-utilize-keyboard-picking-up-kits.html but problem: this is a console port that has been made to appeal to PC gamers on the surface (eg, publicity with dedi servers when MW2 don't have any) but in actual fact, they don't care to write a single extra line of code if they don't have to. their excuse, for Onslaught is that this requires cutting slots on servers, which will affect the ecosystem.
I don't know, the cynical part of me just thinks that it's just because they can make money from it on the consoles (it's paid for DLC). I don't know if they would be charging for it on the PC or not, but they certainly wouldn't be making as much so it's probably not worth the effort to them. Here's the link to their excuse if you're interested: http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/battlefield-bad-company-2-pc/1099654-onslaught-pc.html
That'd be quite an expensive solution, I imagine. For now, even a locally-hosted matchmaking system would do. A bit of lag isn't the end of the world, plenty of people still played GoW2. And it must be comparatively easy to put together.
Heres a question, since the Single player campaign uses the frostbite 2 engine and the multiplayer uses unreal, are we going to be playing the co op in which engine?
Yeah, they're exactly the same. I think it's the new Medal of Honor game that will be using different engines for SP/MP. They're definitely being developed in different studios, I know that.
