hey guys, i just got my new memory and so i used my 256 ram stick to up my colts by .3 on the dimm overvoltage control, so when i pop my ram into it i run memtest86 for 9 hours while i went 2 work and when i come back it says i have 18 errors on test 7, not know what that is can anyone explain? well im gonna run a prime95 soon and another memtest but so far ive reach an overclock of 2.6, i read online that disabling alot of the features in the advanced bios is required and that i do not need them like cpuid to 3 and virtualization and stuff, if anyone has a ds3 can they tell me how they have their advanced bios set-up and their settings for pciE speed, so far i set that to 100mhz and ive been able to oc from 2.1 to 2.6
You don't increase the RAM voltage when you do not have the stick you are increasing the voltage on in the system. It'll probably cause significant damage.
Run windows memtest rather than the DOS version. If that passes to 1000% you're pretty stable. Have seen a few issues with test7, so run the windwos version and see how that goes
kk i will thanks bro, doug if my computer doesnt boot with the ocz how can i up the volts then? the only way which i have seen other people do is sticking a 1.8v stick and then upping the volts to 2.1. also sorry if im asking 2 much but i have a few questions about setting timmings and speed what should my memory multiplier be? i have it on auto but i can set it to 2.0 2.33 3.0 3.6 and 4.0+ i cant seem to get 800 mhz either i can only get 750 unless i put it on auto. right now to even get 750 mhz i had to set the multiplier to 3.0. Next is how do i set ram timings correctly? first of my ram is 4-5-4-15, so i went to bios and set cas latencry time to 4, dram ras to cas delay as 5, dram ras precharge to 4, and then precharge dealy for 15 is that right? theres more stuff here too such as act to act delay, rank wirte to read delay, write to precharge delay, refresh to act delay, read to precharge delay and memory performance enhance, sorry for the wall of texts but its totally confusing on what 2 set these, i just left them on auto, the way they were.
Not sure on the multiplier issue, havent had the pleasure of playing with the DS3 as of yet. Regarding timings - 4,5,4,15 should equate to: CAS = 4 RAS to CAS DELAY (TRCD) = 5 RAS PRECHARGE (TRP) = 4 TRAS = 15 2.1v shouldnt be a problem for DDR2 either
icic, well with some more overclocking and testing i now have a healthy 2.7, but im still wondering what does it mean to set the pci express frequency to? is 100 a good number because i read that if u put it to 100 you can overclock your cpu alot better and easier, but what if your done experimenting should i put it on auto or on a different number? also do i need virtualization mode on inside the advanced bios options?
Leave PCI-e at 100. It can help with overclocking if you increase it, but above 110-115 you may start to see HDD corruption.
i see kk cool, well sorry highlander one last question =) after disabling alot of the things this guide told me about overclocking a ds-3 i now see that i cant really see my ram timings in cpu-z and ive turned alot of things off and on and cant see it maybe im missing something heres my image i ran cpu-z in 6 windows so u can see everything. im talking about the 4th window, its all blank
