CardJoe is right on the money --both in terms of the analysis of CK's behaviour and the fact that CK can always return if he mends his ways.

We have had other members that were banned for basically immature and inappropriate behaviour who, after a cooling down period and a polite request to us behind the scenes, returned to the community as 'rehabilitated' productive members of the forums, some under a different name so that they could start with a clean slate (and no, I'm not going to tell you who they are, but there are several). These members have now become valued contributors, and this is always the approach that we have taken. People do get a second chance --if they genuinely want to change their ways.

I'd also like to remind people that I do have some professional experience in making sense of, and managing dysfunctional and inappropriate behaviour. We have a pretty good idea of what makes CK tick, and we have a pretty good idea of what is the best way of dealing with him --for him as well as for the forums. For now, he needs some time out. Kid has some growing up to do. He can always come back once he has done that.

well I havent been on the forums very long, but I just read through part of the nice lil benz thread, couldnt read the whole thing since I have this thing against........ um.......... well idiocy i guess is the politest way I can put it, he starts a thread basically asking for advice, and as far as I can tell ignores everything everyone says and extolls the virtues of his great benz, now if you want to brag, go right ahead, but dont ask peoples advice then outright ignore them, if you want to have an intelligient convo, well it usually helps the situation if you listen and think before you reply, which as far as I can tell CK didnt do at anytime. just my two cents worth, and frankly if hes been doing this as long as everyone says, well cheers and hopefully he grows up, lord knows I wonder every day how I managed to


what seemed like awesome advice from nexxo about messing with a higher end cars electronics system, now I dont know if he has the skills or not to do something like that but thats besides the point, high end car, lots of integrated electronics and sound system etc etc, much moreso than the average car like my lil chevy, and ya...... well oh well, thats my 2 bits

 

I didn't realize he was causing so much hassle All i saw was some friendly posts, a couple of amatuer but very entertaining modding logs, and a misguided car adventure. I didn't think he deserved the ridicule he got, it seemed to me that he was copping crap because of his: 1) english abilities 2) modding abilities 3) logging abilities 4) automotive decisions The way i see it, the only thing he should have received is good advice on each of these 4 areas, not ridicule, well not as much as what he got i guess - who would have thought a forum on the internet could be so cruel
Well in a way, all the crap he copped isn't such a bad thing, at least he knows what people will honestly think of those types of actions, so hopefully he does learn from the experience i guess... hopefully
/me wishes the kid all the best, and i hope he gets some decent guidance in life, such as a decent driving school, if that sort of thing exists over there

 

I don't think you quite saw all of his behaviour. There were the many PMs, his behaviour on IRC and the repeated tantrums in the forum because he did not feel validated, even though he kept ignoring any advice that he kept asking for. Over. And over. And over. We cut him a lot of slack. We even banned a forum member for giving him a hard time. But CK was a self-indulgent kid. He loved being the center of attention, to the extent that I checked his IP and did some research on him because at some point I strongly wondered whether he was just taking us for a ride.

He whined about how his daddy would not give him the money to buy a HD2900 GPU, causing him to lament how his life was empty and meaningless, while most forum members can barely afford a whole PC that costs as much. He whined that his younger brother got a mobile phone at a younger age than him. Yet later he brags about his daddy is going to buy him a top-spec Merc. He wanted people to fawn over contributions like his project log although he put no effort into it whatsoever, and rejected any well-meant advice to help him improve it; basically he frequently produced crap and then got outraged when people did not think it was the best thing since sliced bread. He behaved like a spoilt rich kid with a sense of overentitlement and frankly it is understandable that people did not take a liking to that. In the end, it was CK that left in a huff.

I am not sure what to make about all the helpfulness, understanding and support he gets from some members. If CK had been English or American (especially American), members would have bitch-slapped him and told him to piss off ages ago. We would have had a friggin' petition for us to ban him. I can't help but feeling that those people are being just a bit patronising towards CK. "There there now, he is just some poor foreign kid, unsophisticated and not versed in our refined Western ways...". Bull. Let's get off our Great White Father syndrome. CK was an equal member of this community and he was treated the same as everyone else. It is his own social ineptitude and insensitivity that led to his ostracision, not his language, not his culture. We have plenty of people on here who speak little English and come from different cultural backgrounds, and they manage to get along just fine. They are just not being noticed because they do not seek attention and do not pander to anyone's missionary zeal.
