OK - i'm workin on the pentium 90 in the hall, gotta format and install windows 98 on it for my dad cause hes sellin it to someone.... i formatted alright, and now when i boot up i cant even get access the to C:..... it detects it and all, but wont let me get to it.... when i go it it says " please re-insert disk and press any key" or sumthin.... i get that when i use the floppy too, when there is a disk in there....

I then finally got it to boot off of the floppy and used the windows boot disk, and then it searches for a CD drive, and it says there isnt one, but i know its plugged in..... AHHHH any ideas anyone?

With regard to the CDROM, it's not one of those "connects to soundcard" things is it?

If running on the same IDE cable as your Hard drive have you made sure you set the jumpers on the CDROM to slave.

Or if running on a secondary IDE cable have the jumpers set to master.

Has the CDROM been used in this machine (just that you said it worked before).

The fact that it aint showing up in the BIOS should have nothing to do with the HDD format.

The problem could be BIOS,IDE cable,CDROM ,mobo.

Try different CDROM to see if BIOS detects that
    try different cable
    try inline with HDD

Is there a constant power supply to the CDROM molex

Im all out , good luck anyway m8:sigh:

I think its a problem in bios, cause my dad said he had a similar problem a year or 2 ago and he called the company and they told him some things to change in bios then it worked... i'll keep ya posted...
