turn the brightness up and you will see what I mean... down the tunnel there are 'bands' of different lighting exposure, rather than a single, smooth transition from dark to light. It is more noticeable in game, though.

The gamma in Doom 3 is higher than on the desktop, that's the reason why it isn't easy to make out from a screen shot.

I've seen it on the water in Half-Life 2, but apart from that.. I've not seen it elsewhere.

I see it now im on a TFT, but CRT you cant.

I think it's because the engine is trying to emulate some sort of smoke, but gradient it with AF and each of the gradients are sub-gradients to fade it out from dark to light brown, but something has gone wrong in the colour that the bands looks either too green or too orange when placed next to each other. Tried other AF settings? Maybe it's just nvidias algorithums?

me too, I don't own a TFT - the quality just doesn't compare to a CRT IMHO :)

It's interesting, very interesting... this comes with exploring the game a little more and changing the section I use for manual run throughs. I have to say that I didn't particularly notice it when I was running an X800 XL, but I'm installing one again in a sec so I'll have another look. :)

Did it do it before the latest drivers though?

I was reading thru the beta drivers list of things (not sure if you mean latest beta or release) and I seem to remember it mentioning quite a few things regarding 6800-series IQ

Of course, I'd like to see you draw something with a smoother transition.

bigz you have too many cards... I don't care whether or not they're samples.

I forgot to state that I was using the latest ForceWare drivers from NZone: release 71.84.

I didn't notice this when I played Doom 3 through, but then, I wasn't really taking in graphical glitches back then - from Leeum's screenshot, it looks to be across all video cards.

I didn't notice it the first time I played the game either.
Seeing as it is a part where there is little other to do than just look around, and I usually pick up on things like that, I don't *think* it was there the first time around.

Might be worth rolling back to older drivers if you can find any. Then we'd be able to see if this is a driver glitch or not.

I don't know what you're all on about :eyebrow: I've seen this same exact effect on every 3d game I've ever played, no matter what the video card was. It's simple: what you are seeing is a transition, and can't be avoided untill FSAA evolves well beyond what we have now.

Oh, here's a question though: why is it that I can only play Doom 3 at more than 10fps when it's on the absolute minimal settings? I figured that a 2ghz AMD system with 512 of 3200 dual channel and a 9800pro would be able to handle Doom 3 at better resolutions than 640x480 and all the effects turned off...
