This is a general question, but I'm wondering if anyone has ever been to one of these bankruptcy sales where you can bid for the remains of a company? If so, did you get any bargains there and how did you find out about it?

This is VERY common in the hospitality business. I have been to a few and have gotten some good deals, mainly saute pans, mixing bowls, small wares. Although once I did get a great deal on a KitchenAid mixer. I knew about them from the chefs of the restaurants that went under and they gave me the dates. You do walk away feeling a bit cannibalistic since you profit from the misfortunes of another. But then again, it helps them cover their debits.
