Im in the market for a new GPU since one of my 8800GTX packed up, was going to go for a 570 to be honest maybe in a months time or so when funds increase however i just found this and wondered what people thought? I generally dont like buying outgoing tech and i know these are power hungry and noisier but its a good £80 cheaper than the lowest price 570 for about the same performance from what i can tell? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-222-AS&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1750
I have been looking at the 560's but im not that much of an overclocker so the 570 seemed like my best option. And part of me would rather wait a little and get one of them but theres always that 'I could have it now' feeling you get! Got loads of games i havnt even started yet as I want to get into them at there best if you know what i mean!
Well, the card you've chosen is pre-order; given the fact that 480s are not being made any more, it'll never be in stock. However, if you can find a 480 at that price, I'd buy it over a 560. The 480 typically has a fair bit of overclocking available and will close in on a 580 nicely.
Stock is due in on the 4th if you believe what they say? I would imagine suppliers are just selling through old stock at the moment?
I’d actively dissuade you from buying that card. The 480 I had was so hot all my fans had to work overtime to expel the heat, and so power hungry the fans on the PSU had to do the same. It sounded awful when playing games, and would heat my room right up. If it were me, I’d buy a 6950 and unlock it to 6970/480 speeds, or like someone else suggested, buy a 560ti and OC it.
It has been advertised there for a while now, no idea if they are going to come through with it. Considering there poor selection of other 480s, I wouldn't hold your breath. But I would take a 480 over a 560
Did you lot forget how noisy and hot the 4 series of cards ran? I'd say GTX 560 > GTX 480 by some way - you can live with it for a start, and it's a doddle to overclock to GTX 570 speeds. How hard is to set the Core clock to 950MHz and walk away?
Depends where your computer is located, and whether you care about noise or not surely? Since you can obviously OC the 480 aswell, I'd go for the 480, although not from OCUK.
I think im being dis-suaded if that makes sense, I think id only regret buying an old card anyway, plus will want to SLi it later in the year most likely so getting another 570 would be a lot easier anyhow, thanks for all the replies.
What that man said. Apparently some people don't care about noise/heat/power consumption, while the more sensible among us consider those factors just as important as the card's raw power
Heh. Plenty of people out there who also claim that the 480 is okay. Newer drivers certainly helped with the initial heat problem anyway! The 470 that xaser mentioned is tempting and the non-stock cooler should ensure a nice overclock - but it's also 'pre-order' The argument's moot anyway - the truth is that the high end 4xx series are on the way out, so a 560 will probably be the only option left (or the 1GB 6950).
Maybe you should have tried harder to stop your self seen it got the tee shirt Most of the reviews about all that was total BS I have two and they are no worse than the 275's I had , How many people run their GPU fans at 100% .
