Hey Gang, Heres the first in a series of diy videos where I go "Back to Basics" and share my techniques. It's always good to refresh yourself once in awhile DO-IT-YOURSELF CASE WINDOW & INSTALL
Brilliant, thanks. That is pretty much exactly what I want to do. However I have never used a jigsaw (I am sure my dad has one) so how do you recommend that I practice. It is aluminium that I will want to be cutting. Thanks again for a great vid.
I was supposed to comment earlier, amazing vid! As for practice, try a blank sheet of metal (like an aluminium sheet).
Nice work, I've seen the guys at Orange County Choppers on American Chopper use that strong double sided tape to stick aluminium onto a aluminium fender so it must be strong!
What do B&Q have i the way of small pieces of blank Aluminium, how much would it be? I don't need much, just enough to know how I would go about cutting holes with my Dremel and a jigsaw.
Excelent guide, exactly what I was planning to do to my new case when I get it (same case too so even better)
OK, it is actually stell that the case's side panels are made of, making things slightly harder, especially for the single speed jigsaw that I have.
Thank you everybody Have you asked your father for assistance? He could show you the basics and supervise you. Also remember to wear safety glasses. For cutting aluminum, you should use a minimum 18 TPI cutting blade for metal or plastic.
My dad works away most of the time so I onyl see him at weekends and I will moslt be working during the week. I also came up with the idea of getting a couple of stainless steel baking trays to practice on as they should be slightly cheaper than getting a big sheet of steel (the case is actually only aluminium on the front I now realise).
You guys should sell the wholesale size rolls of that tape on your site! Nice vid-mod. -CollinstheClown
You can buy large size rolls of the tape Goto BindingSource's 3M Tapes #4910, 1" wide @ 36yards for $73.19
Ah, see I went to 3M's site and I didnt see it. Thanks for the link! I may just get me some now. -CollinstheClown
You bet Collins! btw: I'm currently recording a video guide/worklog of an old beige case transformation. These are just stills from the video. I hope to have the first 3 segments posted on my YouTube page soon.
Cool beans. Gotta tell ya Bill, I've been a fan for ages. And watching you work is like...well, you don't wanna know . Thanks for all the vids you posted in the past, and all the killer mods you've done! You are truly an inspiration with what you do. As a side-note, I'm actually working on your fav chassis as we speak....the CF-1009.
When it comes to taping stuff down, at least on flat surface, double sided carpet tape is awesome. We used it at my last job to hold down honeycomb to a CNC mill. If you put a flat sheet of metal down on the bed with it, and completely covered the bottom of the piece, and stood on it to press it down firm... you werent getting it off without a fight.
Thank you very much. Comments like yours make all of the long hours worth it Indeed, CF-1009 rawk. I just wish I had bought up a ton of them when I had the chance 2 years ago. Oh well, that makes them even more special I suppose Thats great advice Conkbot. Thanks for sharing this! You bet! I'm editing a new 3 part segment as I'm writing this. We're also planning a mod for the Qmicra for PCDesignlab. The mod will honor 75 year anniversary of the `32 deuce coupe. We want to record all of the build highlights. I just wish I could find a real `32 to drive in the video
