hello people, do any of you ask e-tailers if they can select a good CPU for you before you buy? same for memory?

or do you all just buy it and its pot luck?

i mean you're going to be spending x amount of money with them etc so can they select one for you if you gave them the correct information ?

i am just wanting to know because i think DDR2 prices are mad, and so spending £230 on memory without knowing what sort of speed you are going to get is crazy.

I generally take pot luck, but some people ask smaller companies to see.

Very often if they have a showroom, you can have a look at the CPU's before you buy (as long as you go when it's quiet and ask nicely, of course).

You're right about DDR2 prices though, they are utterly mad.

It's luck of the draw mostly, as krikkit said some places will tell u but most won't.

One possible guide is to try and find out what others have been getting around the time you order.

DDR2 wise, yea prices are insane at the mo! :(
