This has been up for a while, but I'd not seen a thread about it on here. Current Homepage Beta Homepage I personally feel that the new version is less than optimised for PCs as there is little actual information on the page, and far fewer stories vs the old page. It feels very much designed for tablets and small-screen devices, which is annoying... I do like the better use of width, but if only they'd actually just used the width properly rather than assuming people's screens end at the sides of the central section... Anyway, what do you think? (I would do a poll, but it appears disabled)
Pretty horrible IMO. If they got rid of the inaccessible, unusable (from a web design point of view) content scroller then I wouldn't mind it, but right now it seems like they're trying to be a 'hip' website with 'cool' features, and failing.
Quite a lot of websites seem to be doing a similar layout - and I hate it. The current layout is perfectly functional, but I dislike the green colour.
Lol! It takes a special skill (bad skill, that is!) to have both clutter and too much whitespace all at the same time! (I agree nonetheless)
Agreed. Its an eyesore on the desktop, but on a tablet is actually quite nice - until you try to scroll the content tiles, at which point it just laggs like hell (asus transformer) Edit: Actually it lags a bit on the desktop too. not great :/
The current layout is perfectly functional. I hope they are smart enough to serve different versions to different hardware platforms.
Desktop = Hate it. Tablet = Love it. Except for the lag, they're really going to need to work on that scrolling thingy. It makes my tablet lag like a boss! (Acer Aspire A500)
Well, this is the survey for it, if you haven't found it already... Personally I don't see why they don't just have three versions of the site: PC, tablet and mobile.
I never liked the BBC front page, I tend to just have links to the individual bits of it that are good (such as news or formula 1).
