No question that the film crew they have is world class. It's things like tonights episode with the arty shots, and the Romania episode with the helicopter crew just above their heads... they know how to make 3 middle aged blokes look cool (and not 'dad cool'), that's very true.

The top gear filming has always been absolutely stunning. Anyone remember the scene of the dirt bike jumping over the jump with a B52 flying the opposite way just above him in the shot?

    The other bloke was funnier:

"Aaaaaaah, owwww..... fell right on my GPS"

    :hehe:

Massively better episode than last week, Brian Johnson is a legend.

I really enjoyed this week's episode too- cocking about was actual funny/ decent cocking-about with a purpose ( it's criminal how much mobility scooters and electric/specialised wheelchairs cost, especially in the USA ). I'd take the Bentley over the Ferrari...

While I haven't seen the new episode yet, a quick comment on the quality of video in Top Gear.

It's always been brilliant. Making cars look THAT cool is super hard in 2 dimensions. Capturing subtle curves, the right light, and just generally making the cars look downright sexy is not easy, especially not while going sideways.

As for arty: The Lexus LFA bit was too arty (2 seasons back or so... Hammond going all comic book on it). A few seasons back (or it could have been one of Clarkson's own DVDs), they had a yellow car with silk bands waving in a wind tunnel all around it in super sensual ways (i think it was an Ascari, but I'd be lying if I said I was sure).
Point is: they do what's needed to make the car seem the way they want it to. If that means they wave bands around, film close ups of the running lights, hide it in a dark room or comic book the whole thing, that's what they'll do. The difference between now and back then is that nowadays technology allows them to do so much more...

That was the Ken Blocl / James May Gymkhana feature, and it was Ricky Carmichael on the bike.

I liked the Lexus LFA piece, to me stuff like that is a nice change from the bog standard stuff, which dont get me wrong is very good too.

Didn't really enjoy the Ice dicking around. Didn't really give the FF a decent review

However me thinks the camera crew were there for James segment on SAAB next week, could be wrong but it would be a shame if top gear never covered the fact that SAAB has gone now and they did give us the first turbo charged petrol road car, the 99 Turbo

My friends 99 turbo, 150hp in something which weighes as much as postage stamp

Just to clarify, it wasn't a B52. It was a Lockheed C-130 Hercules which is still a very large plane - just not as big as a B52. The RAF owns a lot of these since they are considered the pick-up truck of military operations. The RAF owns no B52's and probably never will.

Yes I am bit of a military buff..

Whats the RAF got to do with it?

Anyway, pretty good episode and I liked the little dig Jeremy made about the India Special.

The snooker was only on BBC2 in Wales...unlucky :p

Another good episode I think, not too much cocking about with the ex-forces guys and an almost clear admission that the India special wasn't good enough.
The Saab special is coming soon, they'll be reviewing the history and driving a couple round the track, including one with a rather larger turbine...

The moment I saw the binocular mount on Jeremy's scooter, I knew that would happen! :D

I liked Hammond's recreation of the German "Kettenkrad" in that segment too.

tl;dr I want Camelot to buy me a Fisker.

Well they are on an airfield! ;)

I enjoyed last nights episode overall, yes some bits were overally silly but you come to expect that from Top Gear these days.

decent episode the dicking about seemed more natural, rather than obviously staged kind that has been the problem for the last few seasons.

as for the filming, topgear usually is pretty top notch but sometimes it does come across as too much, the Ferrari and bentley ice segment was poor, constantly cutting to different camera angles gets annoying pretty quickly.

1:30 to 1:50 sums it up pretty much

Agreed, its good to see they can take the piss out of themselves too! They obviously do listen to feedback.

That was a fun episode, a good mix of factual and a little cocking around with out too much being staged. Very solid Top Gear. :D

Agreed. It should be shuffled off to BBC4 along with Eurovision.

The latest episode was the best one in a good while. Maybe the show still has some life in it.
