I don't see Top Gear ending anytime soon without Jezza if it came to that, as Hammond and May will still need to complete their contract and the BBC won't want to lose money from it. I just don't see it lasting long without Jezza.

Their contracts are due for renewal late March/April anyway, that's for all 3 of the presenters.

I grew a bit tired with ~50% of Top Gear about two seasons ago. It became a bit repetitive and predictable for me. Most of the...

"we're going to have an outrageous race between this car and two other things and it's going to go wrong for at least one of us"
"we're going to try and solve a problem that nobody else has even noticed is a problem yet with an ambitious but rubbish solution"
and "look, we're three extremely embarrassing British blokes in another country making fools of ourselves acting out a funny scripted fiasco"

...bits have really bored me in recent seasons and I've only been really interested in the super car reviews and the unique style of editing used in them. The thing is that I almost get my fill of that from my Drive+ subscription these days.

I still love TG and I don't want to see it end, but I do agree that it's in need of a makeover or a breath of fresh air. As good as it is, I think they need some new material for next season.

Should JC end up being axed, as a huge fan of hers I think Sabine Schmitz would make an excellent presenter, as would massive petrol head and great presenter Chris Evans. Also, if they could get him off the Interwebz and onto TV either as a TG presenter or as the host of another motoring show, I think Chris Harris could be a very successful candidate.

I'm just going to put my head on the block.

If I'm going to watch top gear the thing that really interests me is the wacky races, road trips and crazy inventions, and the occasional look what engineering has made (the Jag-Eagle is amazing).

If the show became a serious review show I'd stop watching. I get a bit bored watching the "look at this supercar, look at this hot hatch". I'm a cyclist, I drive my wife's Fiat 500 and my parents S-max (before last week Toyota Previa). The only car I've seen reviewed recently that has made me thing "yes please" was the new MX-5.

I think that the farce gets a little bit much sometimes but generally they're quite close to the mark for what I want on a Sunday night.

Your head isn't on the block. You enjoy it for what it is and, frankly, I completely agree.

I'm getting bored of the "wah, well I used to like it..." crap. I've said it before, we understand that much of it is staged and scripted and YES, we still like it.

All three presenters are for contract renewal very soon, as someone pointed out. I'm betting there's a fair amount of consideration being given to that fact, because all three could easily pitch a motoring/larking about magazine show to an alternate network and jump ship; taking the vast majority of their audience with them.

I would say my head is on the block more than yours in this case, Lance. Maybe I'm losing my sense of humour or maybe I just stopped "getting it" as far as their particular brand of comedy goes, but my last post accurately represent my views on the show at the moment. That being said, I haven't watched all of the current series, I've missed the last 2 or 3 episodes and need to catch up.

I wouldn't give that man the steam off my piss.

Coogan was quick to jump on the Top Gear bashing bandwagon last week too. Personally, I wouldn't watch it on principle.

Admittedly, I've never found Coogan or any of his characterisations all that funny - I think they're just cringe-worthy - so I am openly biased against him.

Is he still driving that Renault Megane?

Yeah, can I just read you something from Top Gear magazine?
No, it’s alright, I've got it here, I've got it here.

“With a mere 90 brake-horse-power available, progress is too leisurely to be called fast, but on the motorway in 5th gear the Megane's slow pace really becomes a pain. Uphill runs become power-sappingly mundane, while overtaking National Express coaches can become a long, drawn-out affair.”

Not my words, Carol. The words of Top Gear magazine.

    Hello?

The only way that could be any worse, is if they got Richard Madely and Keith Lemon to be the other 2...

Putting a sack of potatoes in Clarkson's seat would be a better choice imo...

For me, Top Gear was the only thing worth paying the TV license fee for..... ever since the Beeb ditched F1. Now there is absolutely f*** all on the BBC worth watching.

I pretty much agree. There are a few things... but they are rare.

Seems clarkson has been saying he has been sacked.

If it's true, then Top Gear is finished.

Headlines are saying he has said he has been sacked, but I guess we will have to wait and see.

Some headlines seem to be taking what he said out of context.
It seems some tabloids are taking that as an admission that he has been sacked, while others are saying he will return but with an executive minder to keep him in check.

Like you say though best to watch this space. :)

If he does get sacked the others will follow him. As all there contracts are up in April / May can't see them sticking around without him. Not sure they would ever find the right chemistry again to continue the show.

Would not watch Alan partridge or coogan do it they were both annoying guests.

BBC basically in a no win position, sack him and it's the end of the show that's giving them millions of viewers on a Sunday at a prime time slot. Don't sack him and people will say its favouritism ect.

They'd probably make more money as a subscription based YouTube channel, they would already have a big enough audience willing to pay.
