Both aired on BBC 1 9pm on a Sunday night iirc... I know theres a multitude of reasons as to why a series can get canned [Ripper Street may have cost significantly more to make for instance], but the one got cancelled for 'disappointing' viewer numbers was, in raw number terms, the more popular of the 2...

EDIT: Yes the Evans-led TG's first ep will get a big viewer count as ppl will want to see what it's like, the thing that will determine it's future is what proportion of that number then bail after the 1st ep.

Actually, Ripper Street switched to Amazon Prime, which commissioned and showed an 8-episode Season 3, and last month commissioned Seasons 4 & 5.

Amazon picked it up after the audience backlash over BBC's binning of it... There may even have been one of those petition things...

I hear that Evans is quitting the One Show to concentrate on TG.

As the Beeb has Evans on a three year contract it would need to tank majorly for them to can it before the three years are up.

IDK if the much lauded LaFerrari vs Porsche 918 vs McLaren P1 face off was part of what the old crew filmed, but if they could get that organised for the come back I think it would attract large viewing figures no matter how bad the initial episode is.

Sad, it felt odd watching the studio bits, background all covered up etc.
Wonder how come they didn't show the car review bits think all 3 had reviews/challenge done and we're waiting editing when been shut everything down

What was missing for me was Jeremy do the opening voice over.

He could have begun "TONIGHT, I get fired..."

It was a very poor episode and it showed that if they had continued on as the 2 it would of been a disaster. Will watch first ep of new one and that will be the decider if I watch another.

The studio bits where truly awful they should of just skipped those sections like they did on the DVDs of challengers. Both of them look lost in the studio sections.

It's the end of a era and even been the end of a era viewing figures where still worse than the peaks achieved during both the last season and years gone by. BBC bosses might be thinking we have made a mistake here. If rumours are true he declined a return to top gear blaming it on things been said.

Do think the way he's been sacked as been handled very badly with to much stuff coming out in the public space. If it was my contract and this much was said id be demanding compensation for what's been said.

Rumours are the 3 of them have joined Netflix. Dout it's enough to make me pay for a Netflix sub though.

Watched it last night and laughed a couple of times but it didn't feel or appear like any other TG episode.

It is a shame to see it end with the 3 of them on the BBC but where ever they land with the new show, hopefully they get to to longer episodes or longer series and get to carry on properly and not be restricted in what they do.

I will watch the new version of TG on the BBC but only 1 or 2 episodes to see what it's like.

I thought last nights program was pretty much same old same old, well the filmed parts anyway. So perhaps it is a blessing that Jeremy Clarkson's going has meant forced changes hopefully for the better as I certainly could not watch much more of the format as shown last night. Smashing caravans again?

I've read a few reviews with people saying the studio parts seemed sad etc, but surely that was the point? Given it was a completely unplanned ending to a series taking up a large proportion of the presenters and teams lives with no notice and no specially filmed segments, I rather think the feel of the studio sections was appropriate.

    I imagine the ending they'd have liked to give to the production would be more along the lines of Series 13, Episode 7, I know I wish it was;

That's one thing either or both new shows will need to replicate, the stunning camera work.

Just saw last episode of top gear, studio felt a bit weird watching it with know-one in it, but none the less I look forward to where the three of them end up, I've heard its ITV.

They are, apparently, going to Netflix, although I think The Three Stooges have had their day and I look forward to seeing who will complete the new team and what they do to revise the, very tired, Top Gear format.

Did say somebody would pick them up. Amazon prime will at least not cost me anything extra to see the episodes as already have a prime account.
