Well, glad to know it's official, but not so sure I'm glad to know it's ~£70 a year for Top Gear.

Is the rest of the Prime Video service worth it?

I'm quite looking forward to seeing what Chris Evans does with the show on the Beeb so there'll be no Prime for me.

Prime is not just the video service, it's free next-day delivery on almost everything they sell too. (Why I bought in BEFORE they added video!).

I think "on almost everything they sell" is a slight exaggeration which is one reason why I do not have Prime, that and I am not interested in the video side of it.

I don't mind waiting a few days for things to arrive so that doesn't really appeal to me either.

The same reasons I don't have Prime membership and I'm not usually in a hurry to get things I order from Amazon. I will not be paying £79 to get Top Gear, as suggested above, it is likely to available in the usual places soon after being released for streaming and the new BBC programme is not likely to be so childish.

I've been signed up for Prime since before they added video, It's worth noting that if you're not in a rush for stuff you can get free no rush delivery which gives you £1 credit to use on the Appstore, Digital Video, Kindle Book & Digital Music.

Yes it's only £1 but I break down my orders, My last order was broken down into 13 separate orders, the stuff I needed next day was a single order the other stuff was spilt into 12 different orders netting me £12.

I hope Amazon have chucked enough money at the new series to produce some epic road trips, and hopefully the camera work will be just as good as the beebs!

Prime video tends to have stuff Netflix does not, so it's an alright supplement.

Both Netflix and Prime streaming suffer from discoverability issues. Huge libraries, but you mostly have to search to find anything other than the crap they put on everyone's front page. "Watch this! It's what we pay the least for in terms of licensing agreements!"

Prime had free shipping on the vast majority of normal consumer goods. Speed of free shipping will depend on where you live, but max is 2 days (from what I've seen living in rural Idaho).

As it's been pointed out, if you're a heavy shopper you can split up orders and decline fast shipping to get lots of credit to your account to buy movies or music to add to your streaming library.

Free shipping alone is worth it if you're a heavy shopper. If you aren't, then it's hard to justify any one part of the service as being worth it alone, but together I've found it to be very worth the money.

I used to have Prime - When it was £40 a year.

Then they changed the policy, but £40 was still very good for the options, so I stuck with it. Then the price crept and the features dropped. I had, and still have, no interest in the Video service - I like local media, if my net goes down I don't want to be sat twiddling my thumbs. Couple that with needing two or three different services to appropriately cover stuff I watch? Ehhh.

And yeah, the delivery only applies to things fulfilled by Amazon - And I'd say about half of what I buy there isn't fulfilled by Amazon, so Prime takes another hit from me for that.

Don't get me wrong, if you make use of it, Prime is a great service, but when you're like me and maybe get three things affected by it per year, £80 is just a waste unfortunately!

So here's the big question for me...

Does Prime already carry the Top Gear back episodes?

I mean, yeah, I can watch them in varying resoultion for free on Youtube, but having the back catalog available would make the price tag easier to swallow, especially as I never buy anything from Amazon.

Rumours are coming out that the second presenter for Top Gear is going to be the famous petrolhead... Zoe Ball...

This is just kicking a dead horse now surely?

Nothing more than "news"papers spreading rumours so far. Whoever gets the jobs I'll watch the show first before dismissing them. A thorough refresh is just what Top gear needed, the old format was well past it's use-by date.

I too will give the new program a try but I doubt I will stick with it. I am not particularly keen on Chris Evans who is so full of himself if his Radio - program is anything to go by, and Zoe Ball, why her?

Of course if it only on Amazon Prime then it will not matter as I do not subscribe and will not be any time soon. I cannot remember the last thing I bought from Amazon that was covered by Prime.

    You got things mashed up.

Evans is presenting Top Gear on the BBC.
Clarkson, Hammond & May have a NEW show on Amazon.

Oops a bit early perhaps. Ignore all references to Amazon except the final sentence, but my points about the new Top Gear stand.
