    Jaane, Just of of curiosity could you run the first image through PS using the same settings I had and post the results?

    My mistake (I didn't check first) I meant Median (Filter > Noise > Median).

    Median example

    It's OK. Gaussian blur would yield the same exact result as median when speaking of NR and bokeh smoothing. Median is used primarily (as the link shows) as a blurring technique to smooth surfaces such as skin (pores, wrinkles, blemishes etc etc) and water. Either one would work--just a matter of your own personal work flow.

    Hey all.

    Sorry about this absence, haven't been around in a while.

    @Hwulex & Vers

    1st one has an annoying bokeh, that's for sure. I'll try to give it the treatment tomorrow (have to read a few tutorials first :hehe:). I did it just now really fast with quick mask and it does tone the background down quite a bit. Also helps with the noise.

    2nd one is not that bad, but I think I'll give it some tweaking also.

    3rd one is actually my favorite of the bunch also. It might be a bit over sharpened as Vers pointed out, but mainly I'd say the noise is because I had to use ISO 400 or was it even ISO 800 + cropping. This is where Olympus falls short big time. ISO 400 is still quite good, but 800 needs tweaking and especially with this lens which is f: 4-5.6, I constantly find myself using these 400-800 ISOs and wouldn't mind going even higher if noise wasn't an issue (also getting a better lens would be good :D).

    All in all, if I have some time tomorrow, I'll try and tweak the photos. Big shout goes out to Vers and Hwulex for pointing out these problems in the photos. Also I'd like to thank Vers for the great example pictures, keep them here for as long as you'll want, this might be a good "tutorial" for someone besides me also.

    P.S. I really like your dog Vers. You've taken some amazing pictures of him/her.

    Sorry about this delay guys, been really busy with my schoolwork and actual work here.

    The reason for not making those changes to the photos is that I royally suck at photoshop. Soo, if anyone has a good link to a tutorial where making a layer mask is explained really carefully (especially with a furry critter as this one), it would be much appreciated.

    I've gotten so far that I've made a mask (not nearly as good as I'd like to make) and applied several different blurs to the photo and it does the job pretty well. But, I'd love to learn something about post processing here, so I'm asking for your help.

    Sincerely

    Darkened
