You're a poor kid (with no insurance and no license in a benz daddy bought) that crashed the car?
Still, as long as the other guy pays for repairs to the car you were driving illegally, thats ok.
Thank goodness the police saw sense.
    Get off the road.

You know, I'd rant about how illegal, stupid and dangerous it was for ComputerKing to be driving. You know you have to pass a driving test for a reason, but I get the feeling it will just fall on deaf ears.

So I'll just wait for natural selection to take place.

I've concluded that you're an idiot.

People who are not taxed or licensed make my blood boil.

again, you guys seem to fail to notice the fact taht CK is living in Middle East. It does not matter whether you have license, permit, whatever, it does not matter if it is your fault or not. Money=troubles gone, including troubles with law. I think that, what CK does is pretty common and widespread practice over there, and wouldn'f fuss too much about it.

Because anything is fine as long as others are doing it too, who cares about the risk to other drivers.

the fact is, a driving license in countries like that are almost non existent. Ive lived in Ghana for a large portion of my life and at 13 i purchased a drivers license for a price equivalent to 40 euros. This allowed me to drive although i didn't, i just thought it was cool to have one:p. That was an international one btw.

But its the same in the middle east i presume, people don't know how to drive, they just muck about, everybody gets angry at each other and traffic drives on.

Actually, people get dead too. It has a staggeringly high rate of traffic fatalities --amongst children as well as adults.

yes thats true, but in the city itself, at a busy intersection for example you will never see accidents. Its often if there is a long street and people might loose control. From my experience it was rarely an accident where more than one car was involved. It was often someone losing control and doing something stupid.

I know that, but it doesn't change anything. Driving without a license and risking other peoples lives = risking other peoples lives. Money may help you escape the law, but all that does in my eyes is justify vigilantism.

Is there a reward for turning in people in the UAE?

If you were in a crash, the Police Officer would have asked for your Driving Licence, and you would have needed themfor the insurance payout. SO, i'm thinking you're lying and thats not your car.

The above posters are right, and having known some journalists and family members who've been to such places (including Ghana and the UAE actually) it's just a sad, sad fact that money would absolve CK if he needed it to.

what I forgot to say is that driving license != driving skill in such countries and essentially it makes no difference whether one has license or he does not. Of course you can try to persuade CK to get driving lessons and practice prior to ramming the streets on his own, that is fine. But the chance that it will decrease his chances of totalling his shiny Merc is slim.
Second thing is, having lived in Vietnam for a few months i presume its roughly the same in all developed countries - people drive slow there. I used to take a cab almost wherever I went in vietnam, because my grandma could not walk. I must admit that the driver never exceeded 40 km/h, which was quite shocking. Even more shocking was driving back from the airport in europe at blasting 80km/h, that experience changes definately your perception of speed and safe driving.
the very last point is the fact, that more or less everyone of us has driven some car before acquiring driver's license, was it with your parents in some rural place, or in someone's backyard. What CK is speaking about is pretty much the same I think. I would also like to point out (I don't know how is that in other countries) that in Poland to get driving license you need to drive like 20 hours on maneuver field (is it the proper name?) and 20 hours in city with your tutor, after that you can pass your exam and get your license. Now tell me that this is proper preparation for real-life high traffic conditions? I guess in UAE it's no better and even with driving license his skills would be somewhat limited

not that i condemn any sort of law-breaking, or anything :)

I also think that you misunderstood me by a little bit Nath, i didnt mean that everybody does wrong so he;s fine doing wrong. I meant that virtually noone has driving license there ;)
