i know i should just do it for fun, but i have to get the go ahead from the school, so i figured anything to make the option more attractive to them would help me get the green light if you know what i mean :D
is there a Beo compatable Seti Client out there? because not just any program will run on a beo cluster.

Yes there is, thats what I used to run. Depends on how you tell the control node to use the other nodes though dont forget.

The school should approve, it would be very good press for them, look swanky on your CV, and get them computing power of unused machines.

Hi, if you still need help, feel free to contact me. I'm pretty familure with clustering, I wrote a kernel patch for FreeBSD 4.x that alllowed shared memory (memory space accessable across the entire cluster, combining the individual memory space of each node), as well as a bunch of other fun things, so I know the internals in and out. To make a long story short though, without a _lot_ of time to dedicate to the project, you're either going to have to write PVM/MPIC aware programs, or give up. Almost every cluster has to have custom software work done in order to be of any use.
