Suggestions please for my new build, last thing is picking the monitor, don't want to spend much over £100. 19 inch is ok, or 20 inch, and widescreen, I see lots of them on ebuyer, scan, etc, and I am completely unable to pick one, are they pretty much the same? My guess is that there isn't much difference in them, but I guess that that is part of the reason why I am struggling to decide! My computer is going to be a phenom II 550, used for light gaming / mainly web browsing and general stuff, image editing, etc. Can anyone recommend anything decent? Thanks! :thumb:

Ok, a £100 LCD monitor will just be a waste of money, your best bet is hunt on ebay for an old sony trintron 21in CRT, there big and bulky but awesome monitors and can be had for £40.

Image quality is perfect, colours perfect, no ghosting at all.

Sorry burnout21, CRT's are a big no-no, just too bulky for a one-bed city-centre pad. And also, my system is a new build, new parts. I'm not changing that with a used monitor, however epic they may be. So, can you pick the best out of a bad bunch for me?

    Hi

You could have a look at the BenQ G2220HD.

It received a Custom PC Approved award this month. I know it is slightly over your budget...

I got a 19" Widescreen from ebuyer for my sisters PC.

Its pretty good, I've not noticed any ghosting on it, but I've not had anything like Crysis on it, just LastChaos.

For £100, your not going to get an amazing monitor, but at the lower resolutions I don't think you'll mind.

Most of the 'own-brand' ones will be the same, either Digitech or Hanton.

Aria usually have some good deals on branded monitors.

1680x1050, 5ms response time, 10000:1 contrast ratio, 22" of LCD Display all for under £100... they thought it couldn't be done... they thought wrong

the 5ms response time may affect gaming a bit and it isn't the pinnacle of LCD technology but its dirt cheap...

All these cheap screens tend to have only the analog VGA input, which is a shame.

I doubt you'd be able to tell the difference between DVI and D-Sub on a cheap screen anyway.

Bloody this, Honestly using an old monitor won't tarnish anything I don't even see the problem here. I mean right now you're going to shoot yourself in the foot by choosing a worse choice anyways.

Or go with Moyo's choice, although I'm for the CRT, it's awesome enough to warrant a purchase and it's probably 100x more reliable than the LCD you're going to buy.

Just seen that Scan have got an Acer, Dell and Viewsonic monitors in the Today Only section, for £100 - £112, ranging from a 19" to a 22"

Do you need the monitor NOW and not in a few months? If the latter, I'd strongly suggest you to save up a couple more hundred and get a nicer monitor. :thumb:

Personally I think a big CRT for a chunk of money would be a big mistake. Don't get me wrong, I love CRT's, but it's just not worth spending money on.

After this long since the end of CRT manufacturing most of the ones available will start having tube-tuning issues cropping up in the next few years, either requiring replacement or servicing with an engineer.

I don't know about that, I have plenty of CRT monitors that have lasted and are still running today.

But you have a good point, LCDs seems to be a decent investment, but at that low of a price, it's nigh impossible to get a good monitor, which sadly everyone seems to neglect.
