I'm using an iPad 2 at the moment, and I would like to upgrade to something a bit newer. At the time, I spent quite a lot of time researching different tablets and finally decided on an iPad. Now, there seems to be a lot of new things to choose from. The Nexus 10 seems to have better specs than the iPad, and I haven't even looked at any other android or Windows tablets. So yeah, any recommendations? I use my iPad at the moment for Internet surfing and watching Youtube videos. Also, are there any tablets that feel as "premium" as my current iPad? The metal back feels good and it generally feels quite nice to use. I have no bias on OS, as I like both my Nexus and my iPads operating systems.
Nexus 10 feels high quality but it is plastic, maybe you would be best sticking with the iPad? Have you invested much in iTunes? Personally I prefer android but yen I've spent quite a lot on Android apps
iPad is still best 10inch tablet if your not after a productivity tablet. Nexus 7 is best 7inch tablet. Windows surface rt is nice if you want the productivity but its film/tv/ app selection is pretty sparse in eu at least.
Hmm, yeah after a bit of research it seems that it's either the iPad or the Nexus. I'm not particularily invested in iTunes, and could switch over without much of a problem. I think I'll go for the Nexus. Mainly because its an awful lot cheaper, and I do prefer the android OS slightly more. Before I decide to sell my iPad, is there anything better on the horizon anytime soon? I also think I might have a little look at the 7 inch tablets before I make any decisions as well.
This time next year and things might be a bit better (Win 8 and Android should be a bit more mature), but at the moment I would say stick with the iPad.
Yeah, I'll see if I can get a chance to play around with them this weekend. I know that the iPad has a wider range of apps and such, but is it really all that much better for web browsing and watching YouTube videos compared to a Nexus 10? Might be worth sticking with iOS, as its the only thing the rest of my family knows how to use really... Very tough to decide between these two honestly. Edit: Also, anyone know the cheapest place to pick up the latest ipad? I'm guessing direct from Apple is cheapest? Due to Apple not changing the name for each generation it's quite hard to find the 4th one.
Windows RT requires time to mature. It's great if you want get th3 experience early, and don't care much about apps. Like you want Office, surf the web, listen to music, and play with the hand full of XBox Live games that are slowly being ported one by one. In other words, it's more of a work tablet than entertainment at the moment. In other words, the tablet is at the essential level. Windows 8 tablet like the Surface Pro, is if you want a laptop and a tablet. It's a hybrid device. You can run all your Windows programs, it's backed with a powerful CPU (last gen Core i5), and lots of RAM (4GB). It has a USB port, so you can plug your iPod, printer, controller, USB flash drive or external HDD. It also has a gorgeous 1080p display, with a digitize pen (proper pen!), for being able not only to write with programs like OneNote, but also do math, diagram, graph, physics, and properly draw with high precision. Moreover, the pen allows you to click on buttons on Windows desktop applications especially those that don't play nice on high DPI settings, or if you prefer to not increase the DPI settings. You have DisplayPort out so you can connect it to an external display, and even TV with an inexpensive DisplayPort to HDMI adapter/cable. If you don't care about the hybrid setup, then the tablet is not for you. In terms of build-quality of the Surface RT and Surface Pro, the general consensus is that its the same as the iPad and in my opinion, and others, even higher quality than the iPad. But if you are used to the iPad, and you have apps on it, and you are happy with it, then I see no reason to look at another platform. Android is amazing, but it will only benefit you if you feel the iPad being restrictive.
