Hello there, long time lurker first time poster.

I'm looking for the best bang for the buck video card out there right now.

    Purpose: Gaming.

Budget: ~$160 (I'm in the states).

One thing I wanted to run by you guys.... My current PSU is generic (~550W, with no PCI-E 6 pin power connector, so the card would have to come with a 6-pin to molex adapter), would this kind of PSU be able to run today's video cards?, I'm talking about mid-range cards, not 5970s or GTX 295s...

    Specs:

    E5200 @ ~3.6
    4GB DDR2
    GIGABYTE GA-G41M-ES2L
    Samsung P2070 @ 1600 x 900

    Thanks a lot!

The HD4890. That's the only thing aside from the HD5770(which you'll have to overclock anyways to get good performance) that has excellent performance.

How is there a 550w PSU with no PCI-E 6pin anyways?

You may want to check the amps provided on the 12V output of the power supply. Generic PSUs tend to push the ampage on the lower voltages to achieve the wattage. I'm not sure what it would need though.

    I really don't know.

    It came with the case.

Does the HD 4890 uses 2 6-pin power connectors?

+1 to what reggie said. You should be more worried about what your PSU will do to an undoubtedly power-hungry $190 card.

That info should come in the back of the PSU no?

    5770 or 5750 if you cant find a 5770.

    +1 to reggie

itd suck to connect the card and get a puff of smoke when you hit the power.
