.co.uk, but this is only a way of voting for 'the one which is relevant'. .co.__ should be used for any company in country __. .com shouldn't be used, .net for a global portal, .org for charities, .org.__ for nation-specific countries. .xxx for x-rated.
Definatly a nice idea, shame they didnt figure for the internets popularity when it was originally thought out.
The domain name extensions are a stupid extension of the filename extension concept. Considering the number of domains I don't see that they make sense any more. People should be allowed to use any name they want for their site. Since behind the name there is still a unique ID it may even be possible to use the same name for several domains. A smart browser could split its window and show all domains if it encounters several domains with the same name. Then the user selects one and from then on the browser only uses that one. That would eliminate all those cyber squatters.
I have a .me.uk but only because I couldn't get the .com, .co.uk, .org (in that order). nick01; I think you may be insane. Or just misguided.
I was gonna buy a .com but then I remembered some american having a go at someone because they had the URL they wanted, it went to court and the american person won because of something like "america invented the net and therefore have .com as their own and have the right to steal it off other people". So I went for a .co.uk which also got my vote.
Perhaps the .co.uk poll entry should be amended to "or your own country-specific extension" to cover non-UK/US members. They're a clearer system, you know where the company or person is based straight away. Pity there isn't a Yorkshire extension, squire@mexbro.yorks would be reet gradely.
