eBay can be pretty good for rare things, I've picked up all sorts of bizarre but useful stuff for next to nothing. Just recently though I got a new Seiko 5 military far cheaper than anywhere else on the web, although it's not great for most new things.

Tablet PC: £1200,--; off eBay: £780,--
Electric shower: £200,--; off eBay: £70,--

    Recently:

    Motherboard: £150,--; off eBay: £50,--
    CPU: £350,--; off eBay: £50,--
    Memory: £36,--; of eBay: £18,--

Your mileage may vary. Some more desireable items get caught in a bidding war and cease to be bargains. I see items go on there at prices way beyond what you'd pay for them new, if you shop around a bit. Do your homework, set your maximum price realistically.

Best deal I've got in the last 90 days was 4 tickets for QOTSA in Reading for only £32, even with travel it ended up being a lot less than paying the ridiculous prices for the Bristol gig.

Most expensive thing I bought was my Sony Laptop New and £500 cheaper than retail.

Best bargin would probably be a job lot of 10 new and sealed world cinema DVD's (Japanese, Korian and Hong Kong) for £5. Was also 10 films I was at the time pricing up on play.com to order which would of cost me over £100. I got real lucky on that one as nobody bid :)

Toshiba tecra 550CDT laptop 266MHZ P2 and a battry that lasts aprox 3hrs for £20 in p+p. Fast enough with 128MB of extra ram to run debian with flux box, Simetrix, dillo (the new version is the roxors) and mp3blaster and not be unduly slow. People laugh till they see how awsome my fluxbox desktop is :D
(not even that amazing as fluxbox setups go but impreses windoze noobs).

One thing I amn finding hard to get cheaply off ebay are linux compatible 16bit cardbus network cards :( they are very cheap on american ebay but expensive on uk ebay.

Best thing I got was probably my road bike. It's 10 + years old but when I got it I don't think it had even done 100 miles. Got it for £100 and would have cost about £500 new. :D

A genuine original Japanese Lo-TRS screw-in Floyd Rose floating tremolo for my Ibanez. They stopped making them years ago, so no-one stocks them. My old one broke (second hand guitar) and they're really rare, and it's the only thing that'll fit my RG without modding it, so finding one on eBay was a real steal.

I was prepared to pay a lot for it, but being one of only two bidders, and given the exchange rate, I got it for around £12. Absolute bargain.

    hrmm ...

either the 15$ dell d-series port replicator (no power supply, but new = 150$ at the time)
or a big box of closeout paintball parts from a closing store, paid 40$ for it and got a 50$ barrel, on top of a box of other stuff. sold a couple of the bits locally and made up half of the original 40$. sweet.
