Whats the best both performance wise and budget wise for OCing and Gaming; LGA 775, LGA 1366 or AM3/AM2+? I am looking at parts and I was wondering if its worth it to go Core i7. Personally I was thinking of going AM3 but i really dont know. I am looking for something that is capable of doing Crossfire (2GPU) and can at the minimum hit 8GB for memory. As far as everything else, as long as its ATX i dont care, so long as its cheap. I keep looking at DFI boards, most of them are LGA775, so I just want some outside input...

a e8400 is best gaming chip matches i7 performace any way

    e8400
    biostar tpower 45
    titan fenrir
with that combo you could get the e8400 up to 4.4ghz

    Well, hello again. :p

If you can wait until September/October, I'd do that and see what Lynnfield has to offer. If you can't, the gaming price/performance king is almost undoubtedly AM2+/AM3. Core 2 is end-of-life right now; no point in investing in anything you can't upgrade IMO.

any suggestions for a quad core? I would assume Q6600, but I have heard one of the Q9XXX being better, cheaper or both.

better probably...cheaper unlikely. Q6600 is best bang for buck quad core Intel has ever produced.

yeah not cheaper... Q8400 is cheaper and is a higher GHz then the Q6600... I just put toghether a build in Neweggs cart and Im missing a psu, gfx card and monitor and im still under 1k (just over 700 :D)

This is looking out to be good... I need to find myself a dremel though, found a mATX SFF case, and im throwing a ATX board in it :D

suggestions on video card(s)? Im not really sure if I should go ATI or stay Nvidia... Im thinking nvidia because theyre ahead in the win7 dept, but ATI has DX10.1... thoughts?

Everything looks OK to me except the PSU. You don't need more than 500w even if you plan to overclock. You should save some money and go for a lower wattage Corsair.

Make sure you get the 7200.12 Seagate drives rather than the 7200.11.

What are you planning to cool the CPU with? It seems like your choice of case will limit your options. I see you plan to mod it to fit the ATX board but it looks like the PSU might get in the way of larger coolers.

GPU said it required a 630 for non sli and 680 for sli... got any recommendations for the corsair? I was looking at water, but Im stumpted on how many pumps, rads and res' i need... I was thinking about doing a seperate loop for the GPU(S) and cpu... but with the case, im really having to think about how to do it... Are there any other SFF cases (other than shuttles)?

@bagman, I have a Q6600, it wasnt all that, ill stick with the Q8400 and try that..

Dude, you won't get a standard ATX mobo into a shuttle!! No hope! You'll need an ATX case, have a look at the SilverStone Lascala LC13, was used in CPC's mag when they made a mac killer, it supports a full size ATX mobo, so it should suit you perfectly.

    Corsair, coolermaster, be quiet.

Anything between 500 -750 is fine for your purposes. Just get a good branded one
